Hello everyone ... total new to Volvos and first post.

I have bin itching since xmas for a new "sleeper" (US) or Q-car (in euro) project w. Manual gearbox !
= a car that has high performance and an unassuming exterior.

After looking at few BMW e34 M5 Touring i stumbled across a FL rust free 05 V70R ( high mileage/200k and Auto gearbox ) for supper cheap. ( love the look of it , its a dark blue / almost black)

I quickly found out that this wagon also came w. a manual gearbox ..heck ...just like w. any euro models the auto was an upcharge

Also found out quickly how rare that Wagon model is
In 2005 a total of 674; V70Rs were shipped to North America!

Q 1: ... anyone knows the import number of manual vs auto V70R in 05

Q 2: since I fancy it w. a proper manual gearbox I was thinking to do a LS1 swap to it but then a friend came w. his S60R and looking at the V70R and the S60R side by side it looks like form the driver door forward its all the same.

Would a manual 05 S60R be a direct swap to the 05 V70R ( motor and trans all )? anyone ever done so ?

The reason I am asking is I found a rear end wrecked manual S60R saloon w. 72k miles on it in my local salvage yard ( runs and drives ) that I can get for $1400.-

and last Q ...
How do you post photos in this forum ? can you direct upload Pix or is it all via Use an outside photo hosting site ?

Thanks for the Help

Frank

Photos should be hosted externally (imgur, postimg, etc) and then linked here by URL.

I'd sit tight and just wait for an R that is manual to come up for sale, they do occasionally.
There is a thread here that post good Volvos for sale all over NA ... you've got a lot of eyes looking out for you.

well like I said I have no problem w. a good project !
I just think it would be a shame to let the rust free V70R got to the junkyard ... especially since I can get the both 05s , V70R and the S60R for $2200.- !

if motor and trans is the same it would be a cake swap ... but that's the key are they the same / interchangeable ?

heck w. selling some of the good parts form the S60R ..... wheels, headlights, fenders, hood aso I could recover most if not all of my money ?

of the total 674 V70R made in 05 how many are still around ... you guys have like the wolfburg GTI forum a registry ?

All the best, it sounds like 1/2 the fun is the project. Good luck with it and do post up the swap and pics along the way.

Welcome to the forums.

Imgur.com is good.. just upload them private for ease.. use the direct link, click the photo box in the editor and put in the url, uncheck the box to host locally you dont want that to avoid problems.

Enjoy the project i say yes and much props to saving the car.. i feel the same way, some cars should be saved, someones got to do it..

Yes, brakes are all the same. There is very little difference between the S60R and V70R aside from what is obvious. Powertrains and drivelines are the same. Suspension is the same aside from perhaps spring rates.

Hey Jim ...

1. I tried to edit my profile w. location but it didn't let me ... so this morning I PM'd Global Moderator R-Pow3R3d on how to go about it !
( my thinking was that maybe I need a min. post count to do so ..or something )

2, I am in south FL . From Europe but living for a looong time in the us ! When I typed the 1st post I changed Estate to Wagon just prior to posting ...
Sorry posting in the wrong section ..this to me new forum takes a lil to navigate . Bin playing around and reading last night anything & everything I found about the VR / SR, yet maybe bc I am new some stuff is off limits !
was up past 1am reading the entire built from ...http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?175018-New-member-Just-got-an-04-V70-R/page14

GOOD stuff !

You will need to transfer the CEM at the very least and probably several other modules that are programmed to work just with that CEM. CEM in manual cars is accounting for clutch switch. If you do that, the VIN associated with the CEM will be different than on the body of the VR. Not really a big deal. Not sure if there is a way to override VIN in CEM.

Sounds like a plan for a great project! You might want to contact ben from Rolling Motors in CT, he's done a manual swap on a vR before and knows a thing or two about it, the R he swapped looks like it came from the factory!

Lil change of plans ....

talking to Ben a couple of times and the quote he gave me to swap everything form the SR to the VR i quickly realized its not worth my time to do it my self !

Once the slippery white stuff on rods btw FL and CT disappears I am going to laod up both cars on my trailer and drop it all of at Rolling Motors. ( 7.3 F350/ 43foot trailer and both cars )
Let Ben and some super Volvo guru Steve do what they know and do best !

regarding all leftover parts ( once done, basically one complete car ) get w. Ben ... I told him he can keep it all !

thanks stomish for the recommendation

Good call! Can we have some pre pictures? Till the V70R goes in for the transplant, can you still enjoy it with the white stuff on the ground?

VR ... auto w. over 200k miles on it runs and drives ... trans was rebuilt 23k miles ago .
SR .. manual w. 72k miles on it ... runs and drives BUT is a Total and scheduled for scrap / salvage. Its got bunch of very nice parts on it that are going to live on in/on the VR !

I am in south Florida ... no clue and don't care for the white cold slippery stuff ! must love rust free cars !

Ps: cant wait to meet Ben and his Volvo R super guru Friend living near him ! I assume he is a member on this site ....
