Extended warranty for Canadians

Hi all, about to pick up my 2023 XC90 recharge from one of the dealers in Toronto.

Got quoted below for factory extended warranty. Plan to take the 8 yr/140k one. Wondering if this is good price or I should go negotiating more? It looks to be 20% more than the equivalent steingold options in the US (converted to CAD).

As per the dealership, for MY23, only the hybrid battery is covered in the 8yr factory warranty and the onboard charger, ERAD or HVCH are not covered in the 8yr Canadian hybrid warranty from factory. Is it true from what you heard as well?

2. Prepaid maintenance, the price is C$1399 for 3yr or C$1999 for 4 yr.
3. Tire/rim protection - 5yr for $1495

What are your thoughts about these prices, anyway to get better pricing? Are they worth it?

If this is the same warranty extension that they offer with CPOs, then yes it’s absolutely worth it. I would recommend getting the maximum you can, or as long as you think you'll own the car.

For better pricing - with the CPO, I shopped around for quotes from different dealers for the best price. Saved a few hundred by doing that. Not sure if that is the same for brand new.

Hi @lyj111121 I'm reading your post today, and I'm in a similar boat as you were in when you wrote this post.
I purchased a 2019 V60 last year in 2023, it is under CPO warranty and I'm wondering if I should go for the extended warranty.
I want to ask you if you went for the Ex warranty and if so, what has your experience been so far? Also, do you know if labour is covered under the "All-In" plan?

No I didn't buy it. Would rather have more flexibility as I may not hold the car for the that long.

For a 2017 with 130k km, I was only quoted in terms of b/w cost... $115 b/w for 130.

If you're taking it to the dealer for every minor thing, I suppose it would quickly pay for itself, but damn that's 15k, or half the value of a well optioned early SPA XC90.

In the past year, I could've spent $4500 on a headlight, probably $1000 on a seized caliper, and another few hundred on having the steering wheel controls/harness swapped out.

On the other hand, the headlight needed a good drying, some epoxy to fix the dumb alignment nubs, plus a $100 low beam module. The caliper is working fine after a $40 rebuild kit, and the steering wheel controls just need a push in the right spot to plug themselves back in.

Basically whether it's worth it comes down to how you plan to maintain it, and what you're prepared to pioneer/tinker with.

Extended warranty plan doesn't cover exterior lights and brakes anyways. So even if you opted in for the plan, those things you listed wouldn't be covered.
