Hey!
I'm creating this post since I am a little puzzled.
Problem:
My 2004 Volvo V50 has a D4204T engine and it will not start due to a complete lack of fuel. Meaning the clear fuel line running from the Fuel Filter, to the High Pressure Fuel Pump, is completely empty ( I've included a picture). This problem happened right after it suddenly got cold (-20°C). Before that didn't have a single issue with the Fuel system.
Here's what i've checked so far:
1) Fuses/Relays- I've checked Fuse 74, (In the fusebox near the passenger seat), which was fine, also, the R15 relay worked (clicked). I didn't get around to checking whether or not it was actually passing any power through.
2) Mechanical- I also removed and cleaned the Fuel Valve that's attached to the fuel pump.( See incl. Picture). The Fuel Valve was getting a little over 8.0V while the key was in the 2nd (pre ignition) position. Is it supposed to get more?
I also tried sucking on the Fuel Return Line with a hand pump, to manually prime the system, but to no avail. The little bit of fuel still left in the clear fuel line moved a little at first, but after a few pumps, that also stopped. (In theory, I am somewhat certain that I should be able to prime the system with the technique i described previously, seeing as how this engine doesn't have an in tank fuel pump.)
3) Fuel Filter- After the no start condition I decided to change the Fuel Filter. I checked the Fuel Inlet pipe, Fuel Return Line and the Fuel Out pipe on the filter itself. All three were OK. Also i never had any problems with air in my fuel lines, as many others have.( Picture of the Fuel Filter Housing).
I am starting to run out of ideas and with christmas around the corner, I would really prefer to have a working car, rather than a heaping pile of junk haha.
Going to go check on whether this car has a Fuel Pump Electronic Control Module.
Any input whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
