Steering Wheel Angle Sensor?

In my perpetual mission to clear all my trouble codes and issues (P0026, P0027, Brake Assist Service Required, all corrected and counting...) all I've got left is TPMS Sys Service Required (or something like that), Engine System Service Required, and Anti-Skid Temporarily Off. Anti-skid is what I'm tackling next. The current message seems to have taken the place of "Anti-Skid Service Required" that used to be there, but that disappeared today when I replaced the Brake Pedal Position Sensor. I changed that because my cruise control wouldn't activate, and changing that part got rid of the Anti-Skid message and the Brake Assist message.

Ok, so... While I was doing research on the original Anti-Skid Service Required" message I read on here and a few other places that the Steering Wheel Angle Sensor is a likely culprit. I also read that pulling it and cleaning it might be a good option, so I will try that before sourcing a new sensor.

That being said... What am I missing about all of this? I found the part here at FCP Euro... Pricey. But I noted the part number (31313083) and plugged that into eBay. Came up with this. Seems cheap. My 2.5T isn't listed on the compatibility chart but in the description it does say "2007 Volvo S60 2.5T, R, T5 2.4L L5 - Gas, 2.5L L5 - Gas " The correct part number is listed there. It's specified for cars with DSTC (which mine does) but it also says "without angle sensor." What's the deal with that? Is the angle sensor a separate, removable component?

This one is also affordable, but doesn't mention anything about the angle sensor. The two listings look identical.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Correction: Maybe I don't have DSTC? Scrolling through more eBay listings, I came across another that shows a picture of a DSTC button on the lower dash, beneath the radio and next to the rear headrest button. I don't have that button. But I do get a DSTC ON message when I put the key on, and DSTC SPIN CONTROL OFF due to the fault.

So does my car have DSTC or not? I guess I could pull the steering wheel off and see how many plugs, that seems like a surefire way but it's nighttime, it's raining, and I get restless when I'm researching these things. I'm sure most of you can relate to that. Of course this can't wait until tomorrow!

I had a similar problem on my ex S60. I had a diagnostic error "steering wheel angle sensor internal fault". With diagnostics, I calibrate the sensor and the error is cleared, but as soon as I move the steering wheel, the error is active again.

I was looking for used sensors, but I saw that there are three or four models for that type of car and that you should search by catalog and serial number, and then I give up on the used one.

So, disconnected the battery, removed the airbag from the steering wheel, removed the steering wheel, removed the sensor and tried to see what was wrong with it.

6. Optical sensors on the board

The optical sensors were full of tiny plastic shavings as the sensor ring rotates with the steering wheel. I lightly wiped it with alcohol and dried it. And on the main connector on 4 pins, the solder broke and did not have good contact with the printed circuit board. Re-soldered all the pins, assembled everything, put it back on the car, canceled the error and thank God everything works. It's just information if someone needs it

Well done man! I might have to do the same since a brand new SAS from the dealer is $800 Australian :( P/N31313083

I know that there's models with DTSC, models like mine with STC and I wasn't aware of ones with neither. They aren't interchangeable to my knowledge due to each anti-skid system probable has different sensors. I would try what's suggested above if you're comfortable with that. If that doesn't work, then one of the eBay ones, but make sure it's one that's compatible with your model for sure. Good luck!

Mine went bad. I had a Volvo doctor determine that it was the same part number for several cars with same options and so he found me one from an xc90 in a car yard and it’s been awesome ever since. Mine acted up in hot weather. 35 bucks versus new. Winning!
