So, I am the proud owner of a 2013 XC60 T-6. After a crash course in automotive maintenance ( without any actual crashes,) I have gotten my formerly poorly running Volvo back to the suave, smooth daily commuter that charmed me in 2019 when I bought it.
I never thought that I would take up the burdensome, ( and at times very satisfactory,) gig of working on my car at this stage of my life—as a non spring chicken.
Back to the subject of Sports Mode. I don’t have an R, and had seen occasional references to Sports Mode. I had seen it described as a mode on the shifter marked with an S. I don’t have an S on my shifter. So I didn’t spend much time worrying about Sports Mode. Plus, I’ve seen a couple of errors on Car Fax about what features my car has: it has my car down as having shifter paddles on my steering wheel: I don’t. Last week I read something specific about shifting the knob to the left for Sports mode, I tried to picture if I had seen a branch going to the left without a letter on the shifter “decision tree”, and it seemed to be so in my memory. Minutes later I was elated to feel the shifter move to the left while in drive and to see a big S show up on my dash.
Dear Reader, you can only imagine the ridiculous “reasons” I come up with to make that little shift to the left, but the main one is that I find that kick in the car’s pants a great feeling. To my only slight embarrassment, I drove this car about 155,000 before realizing that it had this feature. As you might imagine, I haven’t shut up about it yet. I’m certain that I will soon get used to it and refrain from playing with my special car‘s Sports Mode as often as I am at the moment, but I felt that another Volvo aficionado might get a chuckle out of my little story.
