Hey guys, noticed that the original filter Amazon link that was posted on the initial post is coming up as not fitting the 2022 XC90 (we have the late 2022 model ER) - does anyone know if that’s in fact true or happen to have a link to a site selling the set (crush washer, o rings and housing) that does fit the latest XC90 models?

TIA

The filter is the same part number for the 2022 recharge as the previous years T5/T6/T8. I’d order from a reputable Volvo store like this:

I have a 2022 T8 and will be doing my own oil change at the 15k mark. Hopefully someone finds this useful in the US, Valvoline makes a 0w-20 spec which meets VOLVO VCC RBS0-2AE and it’s available on Amazon.

I have a T8 with air suspension. Has anyone been able to get the air suspension to raise the car and stay at that level with the engine off?

if not, is it ok to use rhino ramps? I’ve heard that a vehicle should be level when doing fluid changes. But given the position of the drain plug on the xc90, I’m thinking having the car in ramps would be advantageous. The angle would help with the oil shooting out horizontally problem

ps - I buy the oil change kit which has all the necessary parts and liquidMolly oil from www.fcpeuro.com

I don’t trust the air suspension when under the car haha. So I use a quality jack at a jack point to raise it slightly, and use a jack stand. I’m also fairly skinny and can fit comfortably under the car even without it lifted. I’ve never tried to raise the suspension in off road mode, then shut the car off. Definitely will want a jack and/or jack stands to ensure it stays up.

A good thing to remember is to place the car’s suspension into the “service” mode if you plan on lifting it or raising it, which disables the auto leveling.

Isn't there a mode to put it in for that purpose? Tow mode/jack mode, something like that?
Every car I've had with air suspension has a way to turn it off.
I have a S90 which is only rear air suspension, but in the manual...

I assume there is something like that on the XC90s as well.

I have 2 questions for folks who change their own Volvo oil:

1) Does the flout you use to tighten or remove the oil filter housing slip once the filter makes full contact with the block? I bought one via Amazon. It is listed as, "86.6mm 16 Flutes Oil Filter Wrench for Volvo and BMW Cartridge Style Oil Filter Housing Caps, Oil Filter Removal Tool". I am able to remove the housing but when replacing, after the gasket fully contacts it will eventually slip as I tighten. I'm not trying to heavily wrench into it, just curious if folks have issues with such tools "slipping". It's hard for me to get a good, tight fit because it does slip. I wonder if the product I bought is simply the wrong size.
2) On my last change, I noticed several of the plastic housing parts that the screws go into are now slipping or stripped. They are red plastic parts inside the frame. These are the screws used to hold the bottom cover in place.Anyone, by chance, know if those can be purchased and replaced?

1. I think yours is the wrong size. My fluted housing wrench is a tight fit. So tight that it takes a couple like taps on the outside of the filter wrench to release the housing. Never slipped. I also bought it on Amazon, but it was 5+ years ago.

2. The 2017 has several that are stripped. The dealer stripped them… but I decided to not care much since the screws still fit in and haven’t loosened between changes. The 2021’s are all still going strong. But the dealer has been under the 2021 far less than the 2017.

Thanks for your reply. Looks like I need to order another one and hope it fits better. Maybe see if there is an over-priced OEM version.

I think I solved the issue of the oil filter remover.

This is what I originally bought that slips.
86.6mm 16 Flutes Oil Filter Wrench for Volvo and BMW

What I found via a Volvo parts website:

Engine Oil Filter Cap Wrench - CTA Manufacturing 2488 S60, V60, S80, XC60, XC70, XC90
85.5mm x 16 Flute oil filter housing socket, 3/8" square or 7/8"

Looks like there is 1mm in size difference.

For some odd reason I get this error when I try to open your link, "You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action."
Yeah I’ve seen that error a few times on my side too. I’ll try again.

Did an oil change on my 2023 XC60 (which is the same) this weekend. Just want to put out a word of caution for others. When refitting the new filter, DO NOT assume hand tight is good enough. You MUST use the wrench to completely seat the filter / housing. you will feel It bottom out and only needs to be snugged slightly.

Use a torque wrench and torque it to spec - it’s printed on the housing. This will avoid under tightening and over tightening it and cracking the housing. These little details will make the difference in the long run.

We are both in agreement, but not everyone will have, or go out an buy a torque wrench. If one is comfortable doing so, it can be hand tightened and then continue turning with the wrench until it contacts the machined surface and will basically stop, then just a quick bit of pressure to snug will be sufficient. My main point was for folks not to assume that just strong hand tightening would suffice like on all-in-one metal filters.
