A letter dated 9-Dec-20 arrived this week from Volvo Car USA regarding our '12 S60, a letter a lot of Volvo owners will get or should be getting.
NHTSA Recall 20V-378, Recall Action R10029, covers 2007-2018 S60, V60, S80, XC60, XC70 and V70 vehicles.
It's about the cable fastening the lower outboard end of the front seat belts to the seats.
The remedy is free replacement of each of the two fasteners/cables with new fasteners/cables at the dealer. In the meantime the letter advises owners not to let the outboard seatback bolster pinch the seatbelt against the seat cushion when the belt's not in use.
The problem came to light earlier this year. Presumably the replacement part availability is now adequate so Volvo now asks owners to make arrangements with a dealer for the recall service.
As with other vehicle safety recalls owners of affected Volvos who aren't the original owners may need to be proactive in chasing this down in case Volvo doesn't have you listed in their owner database. To verify go to www.safercar.gov, then enter your Volvo's VIN to check the car's recall status.
