A letter dated 9-Dec-20 arrived this week from Volvo Car USA regarding our '12 S60, a letter a lot of Volvo owners will get or should be getting.
NHTSA Recall 20V-378, Recall Action R10029, covers 2007-2018 S60, V60, S80, XC60, XC70 and V70 vehicles.

It's about the cable fastening the lower outboard end of the front seat belts to the seats.

The remedy is free replacement of each of the two fasteners/cables with new fasteners/cables at the dealer. In the meantime the letter advises owners not to let the outboard seatback bolster pinch the seatbelt against the seat cushion when the belt's not in use.

The problem came to light earlier this year. Presumably the replacement part availability is now adequate so Volvo now asks owners to make arrangements with a dealer for the recall service.

As with other vehicle safety recalls owners of affected Volvos who aren't the original owners may need to be proactive in chasing this down in case Volvo doesn't have you listed in their owner database. To verify go to www.safercar.gov, then enter your Volvo's VIN to check the car's recall status.

Was at the dealer yesterday for the part replacement. They had the car for about four hours. Gave me an old V60 for a loaner.

I was at the dealer a couple days ago for an oil consumption issue, doing the final test after the PCV box replacement, and they replaced the seatbelts for me without my saying anything. I was told the parts weren't available yet and would get another notification when I could bring it in.
Side note, dealer forgot to weigh the oil before, so I have to redo the 1200 mile driving.

Had my seatbelt and door lock recalls done last week. Seat belt repair was 15-30 minutes, door locks about 2 hours and they got screwed up so I had to go back and get them corrected. Save yourself some time and double check your dealers work to ensure that the doors actually lock and unlock, the alignment on the handle is even and the interior door panels are reinstalled correctly and completely.

I had an appointment scheduled for the 29th, just got the call from the dealer that they've run out of the parts. Kind of miffed about it, since I had to schedule this far out weeks ago and now they don't have any left. They won't even schedule me again preemptively, and instead just asked me to call in a few weeks to ask if they're restocked...

Seatbelt recall done two weeks ago on 2013 S60 T5 AWD and 2015.5 XC60 T6 AWD at Bill Kidd’s in Maryland. Said the S60 gets fastener near latch and “block” in ceiling. XC60 just gets fastener. Said they could not share copy of document showing exact work but I saw it on screen. Looked like a TSB with pictures of what was to be done. Anyone have that? On the XC60 we don’t like that they removed and did not replace the rubbery piece at the bottom of the belt that kept the clasp from falling down low. And on the S60, the clasp now rests at the bottom edge of the seat as well. Anyone know if that is what is called for? Thanks very much.

Is that rubbery piece a "Before Picture"?

I had my S60 done and the Rubbery Piece is still there.....

I've got an S60, not XC60. So not sure our latches are identical. Mine had recall done, too.

The replacement parts are identical, S60 or XC60.
The "rubbery" part is what covered the cable in question. It and the pyro device it's attached to is removed in it's entirety and returned to Volvo.
Yes, the belt buckle now rests lower down on the seat and is less convenient to use.
Such is the price of safety.

I thought he meant the rubber trim above the plastic. Yea, I'm missing the rubber sheathing, too. Bummer they couldn't replace it after performing the recall.

#2 part should totally do that but the buckle is below that little button on one car and there is no button on the other car. That might be something for me to work on with the dealer. Anyone else have that #2 "button" on their belt holding the latch at a more comfortable/convenient level after the recall is complete. Seatbelt seems floppy after fix. Thanks to everyone fir the help!

Than you need to remove and button and put the buckle higher than put the button back . you can order them on amazon a whole pack for $6. My moms 2017 s60 was missing that as well i am not sure if its after the recall or before since her car was bough used. So i put them in same spots as they were before since there was already a hole.
