It’s volvo. They kind of have to in their own best interests. Many volvo families with newer cars still have their old volvos.

"Something," meaning surprising? No. It's a safety issue that Volvo is required to address. The notice came weeks after my '07 V70 had the work done.

Maybe a bit pedantic, but no, Volvo doesn't have to do anything about it at this point. Age-wise these vehicles are no longer required to be recalled. Let's all keep in mind this is completely voluntary on Volvo's part.

 

I have the earliest appointment available,1/3/2022. One would think this would be a priority over routine maintenance plus the fact it's a hour or less to complete.

 

Every car dealership in the world is backed up right now, some weeks and some worse than that. Why do you think you should move in front of people that have been waiting for weeks to have their vehicle serviced?

 

Lol the dealers in my area still can't find my car in the system as having an active recall. Online it says no active recalls on it too. Lol. Guess Volvo's system wants to see me dead

 

You need to deal with PARTS not service. Recall is run through parts, they have the active master list.

 

There isn't an active master list. There is a portal we log into, plug in in VIN and it shows active recalls (as well as warranty history and other info on the car). Service and parts have access to the same portal.

Confirms that my local service dept is just that clueless. They still have no idea. Parts knew and told me personally the day the recall launched that all my p2 VINs were affected.

 

I called the three local (closest) dealers to me and none of them has any idea when they will be getting the replacement airbags in. I am on a waiting list at our customary usual service spot.

I am confused about this - some guy is suing Volvo over the recall? Volvo would (and should) get sued for NOT having a recall.

 

My Dealer said they had the air bags in stock. The only reason I am scheduled for the 10th is because of my schedule they could have gotten me in next week.

 

Who is that? Annapolis Volvo said check back in January to see if they had parts, Koons Volvo in White Marsh said no problem, come on down next week. Maybe it helped that I mentioned I bought my V60 from them? Anyway, the lesson of the day is start calling around until you find a dealer with parts.

 

Imo suing wouldn’t solve anything, and Volvo would just be discouraged from doing future goodwill recalls where cosmetic aspects wouldn’t be 100% there.

Thinking more about R airbags, that's a real big mess. I've seen pics of at least one that has Atacama on the airbag flanks. That replacement is not going to go very smoothly at the service counter.

 

So what's gonna happen when I bring 2 of my Volvos in that used to have 4 spoke wheels that got swapped for 3 spoke?

 

I think if it was originally an option on the vehicle then you may be okay.

I wasn't sure how the warranty claim would go claiming a 3 spoke part number on a VIN with a 4 spoke airbag, but another member here got his covered. Pretty sure he's also a dealer tech.

I would just tell them about the swap when you make the appointment so that the correct airbag is ordered or set aside for you. I'm sure as long as an airbag is replaced Volvo isn't going to care whether it was a 4 spoke or 3 spoke.

 

The color will match. If you have black (or charcoal or whatever they call it). That is the only color available.

There are a few threads here on this topic. I posted the result of my recall service: Airbag Recall R10136 I thought the replacement looked quite good because it matches the black facia parts (cluster area, center console, vents & etc.), and I don't even think about the color change anymore. My photo:

 

R owners who want to keep their fancy badge on the wheel could get a spare airbag from the wreckers when they go for a recall. Also the airbag fascias are removable if you ard willing to take it apart.

 

I just got a call to confirm I was coming in. The service advisor confirmed ALL the airbags are black now, so I'll leave with a 2-tone steering wheel. Considering the car is 16 years old, I think I'll be OK with it.

 

How long has it been taking the dealers to get airbags in stock?

 

The first dealer said check back in mid-January. The second dealer said they were in stock. The only wait involved was for a slot for service. Call around

 

What took Volvo, the safety company so long? BMW did it to my daughters 2000 E46 a year ago. They gave me a new car as a loaner, and washed and vacuumed the car too.

That was done the same day the Volvo dealer charged me for work on my S80 that they didnt do. Credit card refunded my money, McDonald Volvo (& Audi) lost a 60k sale the next week, I bought a new BMW product a few months later, and I sold a few friends on BMWs instead of Volvos or Audis. Pigs get fed, hogs lose customers.
