I finally have the no-name TDI mounts installed and I have been driving the car with the new mounts for 2 days now.
There is a lot less vibration at the idle. Definitely a big improvement over the original 350k mile mounts.

That's a new mount on the left and old mount on the right. The old mounts were about 5mm (0.2 inch) lower.

And this is the difference in height on the transmission side.

Before: Transmission sitting on the rubber bung.

After: Transmission sitting about 5 mm higher. I know that on the gasoline engines the gap should be bigger but I never saw photos of a gap on a TDI engine. At least is not touching the rubber bung anymore. We will see how long these no-name mounts will last. Will keep you posted.

Definitely an improvement but I still have some vibration at idle. I think this might be due to the right lower engine mount (Volvo 9161900). I have replaced this mount 2 years ago when I was doing the timing belt, but I didn't buy an original Volvo part. I was in a hurry and all I can get was a Maxgear mount. After the timing belt replacement I have noticed increased vibrations, so that must be this mount. I have now ordered probably the last available original Volvo 9161900 mount. I hope it will make a difference and that it will eliminate the vibration that is still present at idle. There was definitely a difference in price, Maxgear was 35 EUR, original Volvo 140 EUR :)

Does anyone has experiences if non-original right lower engine mount can cause a vibration?

I was watching this video on YouTube, this guy replaced only the right lower engine mount and the difference is substantial. But his mount was totally destroyed (mine is not destroyed, just a cheap part) and he replaced it with non-original part, but didn't mentioned which brand. There is a before / after at the end of the video from 16:00 - 16:28:

The no-name mounts that I had installed in the previous post didn't last long. After about 500km, the transmission was again laying on the rubber bung.

A friend of mine has put 850 / V70 T5 hydraulic mounts into his 850 TDI and the transmission sits about 1 cm (half inch) above the rubber bung which I guess is OK. Also no vibration.

So I decided to try this next.

This is a brand new Corteco 601775 - 850 / V70 T5 rear mount... the protective wire already fell of when I opened up a new box. I guess this mount is no good? Also looks as low as my original 350k mile Volvo mounts. I should probably return this one?

That’s kind of how they are, though they usually don’t have quite that much slack in the wire. It doesn’t really matter though- the wire doesn’t really serve a purpose in regular use. Corteco is OE, and are good mounts

The front one had just a little bit of slack in the wire and I assumed that's normal. But the wire on the rear one fell of in the box. That was weird to me. I know that the wire doesn't serve a purpose I'm just not sure if the mount is the right height or the wire is too long. That's why I wanted to hear your opinions on that.

In other news. I have just replaced the front mount with the Corteco 80000984 and the transmission is finally siting above the rubber bung! That's a win. Now I just need to figure out the rear one.

btw: I know that Corteco is OE and that these should be good quality mounts, that's why I ordered them. That makes the loose wire even more weird.

So I have replaced both mounts today.

Front - CORTECO 80000984
Rear - CORTECO 601775

I have also replaced the right hand side mount beneath the pulley.

This is the current situation.

The gearbox is sitting above the rubber bung. But not as high as I've seen on photos from P80's with gasoline engines. Keep in mind that mine is a diesel which has a cast iron block and is heavier.

What do you guys think is that high enough or will these new mounts settle a bit and will the gearbox lay on the rubber bung again?

I was thinking to made 5mm steel spacers and put them on the top of the mounts to rise the engine a bit more.

Another solution is to try P2 mounts. A Russian guy has these mounts in his V70 P80 TDI - Volvo 8683936 / CORTECO 49361578 and he claims that these mounts sit a big higher - more here if someone is interested: Небольшое Т.О.

But I'm slowly getting tired of replacing these mounts. Not sure if I want to go through another set this year.

I have added a custom 4mm steel spacers on top of the Corteco mounts (front & rear). The mounts are for gasoline powered P80s.

Image

There is just enough thread left to bolt them down with the spacers installed.

Image

That's the front mount with the spacer installed.

Image

And after both spacers installed. We have clearance.

Can't tell anything about vibrations yet, because I'm doing the whole suspension on the car at the moment. Will report back once the car is back on the road.

@Arduu after one year on Corteco mounts for petrol engines on my 2.5TDI everything seems to be fine. No vibration anymore and the mounts did not collapse under the weight of the heavier TDI engine. I recommend this solution.
