This weekend (while away from home skiing with no spare sets of keys with me) my car locked itself with my only set of keys inside, with my phone & wallet inside, while running. The car somehow outsmarted itself, and it must have thought I was inside with the engine running, then locked itself, which then prevents entry AND prevents VOC from doing anything remotely -including remote unlock from the VOC app (apparently for safety reasons). Although if car is confirmed stationary (via geolocation) and idling for a certain period of time, I think Volvo should be able to allow a door to unlock and over-ride this safety feature.
Here's what happened:
1. I loaded up the car from the trunk, left trunk open
2. I opened the driver side door and got in
3. I turned car on manually, placed my phone and keys on the center console near the gear shift knob, then got out of car
4. I closed the driver side door and left car running to grab something else to throw in trunk
5. I loaded more stuff then pressed the rear hatch "close" button
6. When I walked around the to get in, all doors had locked with my only set of keys inside
7. I went inside (luckily the house was still unlocked) and downloaded another VOC app on an iPad, logged-in and attempted remote unlock, but could not do to vehicle "being in use"
8. I called VOC, they tried to send a signal (probably the EXACT same signal I was attempting to send, and could not remotely do anything to the vehicle"
9. They said only option was to call for a tow truck to pop the lock.
10. Talked to a supervisor and they said that this had NEVER happened before
11. Tow truck came 45 minutes later and popped the lock
Has anybody else ever been locked out of their car with it running and the keys inside? Just bad luck? Did I do something wrong? I held on to the key FOB for dear life all weekend after this.
