I fully share your dissapoitment, additionally some new drive-e engines are mated to the ancient 6 spd auto! WTF...Had noticed this information stated to appear on a couple of other European Volvo sites (eg Swedish and Dutch). The major takeaways for me from this information is :-
1. for the EUCD Volvos (ie 60, 70 & 80 series Volvos), still no Drive-E/AWD combinations. With replacement of the 60 series Volvo's still 2-3 years away this is disappointing.
2. the only AWD models (V40CC excepted) are with the "old" legacy engines and transmission
3. the new Drive-E D5 makes its appearance in the S60 and V60 although as per above - as FWD only. Still impressive performance and fuel economy from the new D5. Disappointed the new D5 hasn't found its way into the V60CC.
4. for the V40CC, the Drive-E T4 AWD joins the existing Drive-E T5 AWD. Disappointed the D4 (or even better the new D5) is still not AWD for the V40CC. Still no AWD versions for the standard V40.
As an aside, I hope the European and US Volvo websites can hold on to their current format as long as possible. Great information and easy to find. Unfortunately here in Australia, Volvo Australia have recently adopted the new Volvo web format (modelled on the Volvo International site) which is next to useless. You can't compare two (or more) models side-by-side anymore.

So basically you are implying that for MY16 volvo did not have enough time and proper planning to integrate the 8 spd into the other drive-e engines, and that the MYY17 cars will have them?Let me try again:

So can we expect a 4cyl 1.5L diesel soon as well? Mated to an auto tranny ofcourse...Volvo is working on 3 cylinders to be introduced soon, maybe next year already. It isn't a secret. The 1500CC 4 cylinder however was a bit of a surprise because there wasn't much mentioning of this version. From what I recall VEA was based of 500 CC per cylinder strategy with the 3 cylinder engine becoming a 1500 CC.
