C30 - Accidentally ordered larger tires

Got a set of 17" wheels from a donor C70 and ordered Continental Viking winter tires. Got them all mounted up, ordered OEM lugs, and found the tire was the wrong size. My own damn fault. OEM size is stated to be 205/50R17, but the previous owner had 225/45R17 tires installed. I opted for that same size, but typed in 225/55R17, which is WAY larger. One digit made all the difference in the world. It doesn't quite touch the strut, but it's damn close. It barely rubs the front fender liner.

With all the hassle of getting these unmounted, returning them, waiting for "store credit," ordering new ones, getting those mounted, and finally installing, my question is this - is the current configuration with the larger tires SAFE? I know they are too big, but what am I risking? Input appreciated!

#1 is the 225/45R17 correct size, #2 is the 225/55R17 incorrect size that I ordered. Aftermarket lugs on OEM wheel just to see if it would rub at full lock - OEM lugs will be installed.

My "tire guy" is the regional manager of a chain here in MI, and I trust him. I ran this by him and his technician and they both agreed that there would be no issues. I will give this a try, check frequently for rubbing on the inner liner and the strut tower, and give it a go!

Update! They were way too big. I accidentally created a rally car, and it looked cool from that aspect. But they actually made contact with the strut tower. I had the fleeting thought to add a strut spacer and lift the car up by 1/2” but it still wouldn’t change the contact between the tire and the strut. Being shipped back and correct size has been ordered.
