A filter is a filter. Once filter media is used up, it needs to be changed. If you do ever change it. After you put it back, use an external filter to help with the longevity.

2006-2007 TF-80SC Automatic Transmission Valve Body Issue & Serial Number Info

To answer some questions.
1. In order to get to the filter you have to split the case. In which case it can be replaced for $13
2. My filter was plugged to the point of carb cleaner not getting through the screens.
3. All clutches with 140k looked good with the exception of 2 steels in one clutch pack and 2 in another with some small hotspots otherwise wear was extremely minimal.
4. The "media" in the filter are just mesh screens
5. The fluid I changed right when I started having issues still looked semi clean, wasn't perfect but wasn't horrible.
6. Also seeing the inside of this transmission and how the components work I don't think an external filter would have helped my case but who knows.

What I can mention is that at some point someone before me had the valve body cover off. What I believe may have happened is they overused silicone to seal the pan back on...WITHOUT LETTING IT DRY FULLY, as well as using incorrect silicone(Gasket Maker). Which may have led to my premature filter clogging. So in any case, if you are using silicone (Gasket Maker) instead of a pan gasket (they do make one) LET IT DRY. Otherwise you may be in my shoes, seems it dried into the filter/pickup screen and part of which left me with no pressure. Yes I opened up the pump and all is perfect.

This still doesn't explain my ripped O-ring which is also part of my pressure loss.

Just a suggestion :

My rebuild/reseal kit came with a gasket which I will definitely be using!

Pulled mine apart this morning and the filter is mostly clean, but it will be replaced along with the pump bushings, o-rings & gaskets. I wonder why you had so much material.....

Again, I believe it was due to the previous person not letting the absolutely excessive amount of Silicone gasket dry before adding fluid and running the vehicle.

Makes sense.

Is there any way from my "home version" of VIDA to see what software the car has for the transmission? And is anyone aware at how many updates there have been for transmission module?

I know my car has received at least one software update for the transmission, and an indie shop I spoke with said he believes there has only been one update for the transmission released. If I don't have to take my car somewhere to have a shop tell me if I need an update or not, that would be ideal.

I know there was a release between 2015 and 2011. I don't know since then.

So... I am fairly positive that I have a bad Valvebody. We may have pushed it a little to far. Only time will tell. I am going to begin the process of removing my valvebody this week. I don't have the time to rebuild it who would you all recommend to just purchase one through? I have a 2008 XC90 V8 Sport. I will get the serial numbers off it later on.

ISSUES I HAVE

8-9 months ago it began to flutter in shifting 2-3. Flushed fluids and had a update done
6 months ago moved to Florida where issues got worse but stayed the same. I figured it was due ti 100 degree weather.
4 months ago we had our first time where it wouldn't engage in gear.
1 week ago transmission is really touchy.

TODAY left my wife stranded. She eventually got it home but BARELY. I took it out and had a P0700 and a P0741 code. I was thinking its the Torque converter. But I am not beginning to believe its the Valve body and I should start there with a full trans flush. If it is still bad, I will then buy a transmission with 80k miles and put the valve body in that and call it good.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Why buy another faulty valve body? Just get a new one that's not faulty. The early valve bodies have softer metal, which was rectified in the newer ones (supposedly), but newer transmissions also had this problem, so why risk it? Cost should be about the same.
