I have a two-week old 2022 XC60 T8 Inscription. Upon picking up the car I was able to pair the Volvo Cars app (which I understand used to be called Volvo on Call) with the car. It's not an extremely useful app in its current development state but I did like the ability to lock and unlock the car remotely and should be able to precondition. About a week ago I saw on my phone the app was no longer paired with the car, but on the car screen under Profiles-Volvo On Call it says the app IS paired with my iPhone. Also says I can go to the app to unpair my phone but the only screen the app will present is to PAIR it with the car...but the car says it's paired and go the app. I've called the VOC reps (who have been excellent and patient) and they have had me repeat several things I had already done: delete and reinstall the app, create a completely new Volvo ID, restart the Google infotainment (holding Home button for 20-30 seconds), deleting my Google account from the car and re-signing in. Maybe some more things, but nothing has worked. Finally they suggested a system reboot and asked me to try holding the front defrost button for 1 minute to restart the whole system They warned it can take hours to complete. Well, that may work on the Sensus system but nothing happens on my Google Android system. Both VOC and my dealership service department have said they really don't have any documentation yet on this new system and are sort of flying blind. My dealer has contacted Volvo to try to get guidance.

Has anyone else had this problem, or better yet, had the problem and solved it?

Don't worry it will be resolved, maybe in a week or a month and maybe in a year

I had a much worse case at MY2018, I waited "only" 8 months for Volvo to solve the problem with the ECU engine unit (problem that was previously known), they have great and capable developers

What an encouraging response 😢

Thanks BigBang, you gave me a laugh...but I know it's true. I don't care strongly about having the app or not, but simply by offering it Volvo sets an expectation that it will work. My wife is now wondering if the alleged safety systems actually work. It's like what an airline CEO said years ago back when they still cared what the flying public thought, "If the tray tables are dirty people will wonder if we're maintaining the engines."

Just so I'm clear, both my dealer personnel and VOC folks spent a good amount of time on this and really tried hard to figure something out...but it was obvious that all they had to go on was how they handled Sensus problems.

I am fully expecting class action lawsuit on this car at some point (just like what GM is going through right now). Not blaming the dealer or the salesman at this point, they are just as much victims as you are. The whole concept is lunatic... It's not just an execution problem. A lot of things about the system just do not belong on an automobile for the sake of reliability alone and it is all part of the "connected car" idea. The issue is what do you want your car to be connected to? And therefore who do you give control and give your dependency to?

It may be server issue. Both the car and phone app talk to the server which passes data/instruction between phone app and the car. The pairing is controlled by server, not directly between the car and phone app like Bluetooth pairing.

It would be normal to have a backup server, if there are problems with the existing one to activate the backup
Because what if there is a failure on the server currently in use

Similar thing happened to me just yesterday. US '22 B6 Inscription. Volvo support asked me to reinstall Volvo Cars app, but forgot to tell me to "unpair" from car first. This left me with newly installed app wanting to "pair" and car thinking it already was. Had to do a Google factory reset (under System menu) and ( after having to redo all my settings/profiles) things are back to "normal".

Thanks, VolvoMD. Interesting that neither Volvo nor my dealer has suggested that. I would guess it's a "last resort" bc of having to reload all info, apps, and accounts so they're not eager to recommend it. PITA for sure, but it looks like that may be the only thing left to try.

@Volvomd You have the same car as me. What functionality are you getting from the mobile app after getting this fixed? I assume it is still fixed! :D

apologies for the delayed response. Have only had the car for 6 days in 6 weeks. Still at dealer. Only app functionality is to lock/unlock and some cabin preconditioning that doesn’t do much as far as I can tell.

Well sad to read that so many other owners are having this problem. I took delivery after a 4 month wait, of my 2022 XC60R one week ago. Immediate problems at the dealership getting signed into the car with a Google account and to get the drivers information display to change screens. Very disappointed with that as only two screens allowed; one with two half moon shaped dials on the side and a big black nothing space in the middle, very poor display which could have been much better with whole dials and more information that lies hidden in the system instead of on the screen. Eventually got the map to appear on this display in the middle empty space. Then problems getting the car to recognise the Volvo Car app which now only shows that it is locked and that the conditioning system is inactive, nothing else, no fuel level, tyre pressure, and importantly, no location information. This was with the dealership guys doing the work for me. Anyway, had to take it back, a round trip of over 40 miles, to the dealer for mother shot at fixing this - that didn’t work either.
The centre screen is a pretty useless thing, distracting to use and too many submenus that do not get you to where you want to be in setting things up easily. Also with tiny little obscure icons in the top corners. The Google map is no where near as good as the Google map on my phone, not showing traffic queuse or hold ups and some weary little box that keeps popping up trying to direct me to cafe shops would you believe. This so called Volvo leading edge system is miles behind other manufacturers, such as Mercedes and even Nissan Quashqi and Juke UK models which have superb driver information displays and immediate and instant car to phone link up. I’m sorry to say that the Volvo to advertisements for the advanced “Smart XC60” is not true. Finally, I am even more disappointed with the non existence of some features described in the Volvo on line description of the car where it mentions a number of so called advanced safety features such as pedestrian and animal and cyclist identification ahead of the vehicle; another is the pilot system which identifies the movement of vehicles in front of the car,( stopping, moving off etc) none of these I now fin d come s standard as the marketing description appears to suggest. These items seem to be an addition cost option which is not made clear at all, all the on line blurb does is put I mini star next to a word in the brochure which when activated comes up with a window stating, “not available in all regions“. Well why not add a line to say available at extra cost. Many adjustments to the infotainment system can only be made via an internet connection. I can’t find a SIM card slot anywhere on the car, it has to be connected through my phone which has then to be reconnected to the system every time the car starts as the link to the phone drops out. So bottom line - a good looking comfortable car, but with the above problems flagging up a thought of what else can go wrong. Don’t want another Volvo until they can sort the technology out and match other manufacturers, but now I have a radio with a map instead of a smart car.

@Gloves, for what it's worth, with my dealer's help I at last have got the Google Automotive system and the Volvo Car app all working as designed. You're right, the Volvo app has limited functions: lock/unlock, preconditioning, and charge status for the Recharge version, but I find them all useful. I have to say, now that it's working the infotainment functionality is great for what it offers. Still lacks Apple Car Play and Android Auto but I don't use those anyway. And, except for the complaints about the software in my various rants here on Swedespeed, I love the car. My wife loves the car. It is very comfortable and quiet for long trips. No other problems at all (yet). Hope your issues get sorted.

Glad to hear you got the app and car talking to each other. While disappointing that the app is missing features I had with the XC90, I am still very happy with what IS working on the app AND the car and have faith that with each update, those features will be available in the future. I received and installed the latest update (1.8) yesterday without issues for which I am grateful. I love my car as well and hope all owners who are having problems get it sorted out so they can love their car.
