Unless your dealer belongs to the 1%, how can you trust what they say?
Good point! I don't really trust what they say.

My service rep is actually OK. He definitely learns something about the XC90 from me every time I am in, but he's an honest guy and tries to do right by me. The sales staff on the other hand...

I asked the Volvo service manager to check with Volvo HQ as to whether I could upgrade my T8 to the new PA and this is what they found out. I hope it is not true, as I would like to upgrade. I am only passing on information, not debate whether or not my dealer is clueless, etc. Perhaps this is the wrong forum for information sharing.

Here's a hanky...

It's generally a good forum for sharing information, however if you take time to read through this thread you will see that it contains nothing but hearsay and bad info from dealers. It's frustrating that Volvo can't won't clarify the status of PA2, and a frustrating thread in general.

Everyone wants the same thing and no one knows for sure. Everyone's jolly and ready to gobble up the good "news" and is at each others throat's when someone suggests otherwise. Could y'all be more childish?

I did read the thread. What I learned today is that some Volvo owners (such as Tidbits) are jerks. Here is your hanky back.
Just do not pay attention to the usual forum curmudgeons; filter through all that and keep the info that interests/serves you best.

My info came directly from Volvo NL (dutch importer/representative). So I'lld assume it is safe to say that a PA2 upgrade is possible (since an official Volvo channel, not a stealership confirmed this), but the implementation is delayed. I will check back with them momentarily and report back here.

I completely agree on the frustrating part.

over the air updates
That would be interesting considering they haven't used the OTA update capability at all, yet they would try to do it for such a major change?

Frankly I don't care how/where/when at this point as long as we get it.

Whatever they tell you, take it with a grain of salt; they have already jumped the gun once...

Here's the reply from Volvo Netherlands:

English (translated): "Week 38 was indeed mentioned by our headquarters for the XC90 MY16 speed upgrade (50 -> 130 km.h), Dick. Unfortunately more time is needed to complete the upgrade. Unfortunately we can not give you a new estimated date yet."

Hence no need to lose hope that this upgrade is in the making, yet sadly no more clear outlook on a date of arrival.

Tried to follow up with VCNA towards the end of the week, still waiting on an answer... I keep checking this forum hoping there's official word and I keep coming away disappointed.

*sigh*

You really want a computer drive your car at 80MPH no hands?

Read my post : http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?367889-T8-wont-restart-Awfull-day!-BIG-FAIL-VOLVO

How about just driving your car home and play some video games in your living room?

It appears the Pilot Assist in the new S90 (launched today) is active up to 80MPH.
AutoExpress suggests this may be soon available as an upgrade to the XC90:

QUOTE: The (S90) safety story is even stronger than on the XC90, too. There's the same City Safe autonomous emergency braking, self-parking, 360 degree camera system and pedestrian detection, but the semi-autonomous driving feature that will follow the car in front (and the lines in the road) to leave you feet-free and hands-free is now available at speeds of up to 80mph. That's a big jump from the measly 30mph in the XC90. We're told an upgrade will be available for XC90 owners, but Volvo hasn't decided whether it will charge existing owners for the privilege - let's hope it sees sense on that one.

I get you had a bad experience, but I feel like now you're just going out of your way to bad mouth the car-- chill out. No one is asking to drive "hands free." As you should know, you're required to have your hands on the wheel. I and many others here have been using PA1 in stop and go traffic with no issues and the ACC for long drives. Just want to combine the two to help on long highway drives.

Sorry you feel like that. I will not chill out with the fact that we are not keeping the eye on the ball regarding having so much control from the car.

My experience is an eye opener and not just a matter to vent about.

Not long ago I was also looking on the hope of Volvo upgrading the MY2016 with the option to go past 30MPH.

I feel now that the light must be open and self driving or any drivers help is just a gimmick to turn away from the fact that a driver must drive and not to be driven.

You really think that keeping your hand on the wheel mean anything else than a gentle shake every 15 sec???

The theory and the reality of adding these drivers aid are clashing now. Attention lacking drivers today will soon become no drivers attention required. Its a downward spiral and I see only the end user who will stop this... meaning the drivers to take back the control.

Autonomous driving is coming whether you think it's a good idea or not. It won't come all at once and it won't come without some mistakes. But in the end it will make driving safer, cheaper and more enjoyable. As you said, it's a slippery slope, but one I'm ready to slide into.
