unless it's mandatory/recall software update/upgrade , you will get charged for the software and the labor.
Stop spreading bull****. That is absolutely untrue. You apparently haven't been into a dealer in the last two years.

Just read it:

http://www.volvocars.com/us/own/maintenance/volvo-service-advantage

SO you go in, get a tire rotation or some bull****, and you specify on the RO to check and apply any software updates. If they balk you pull up this website and show them. It is called the Total CAN Update and it has a part number. 8691414 (8691431 for P1 cars). I even put this part number in the notes of the RO so there is no bull****ting when the car goes in.

Then you verify on the RO they completed the work as requested. If nothing is shown on the RO they did it you send the **** back until they do it.

I've done this many times and the dealer doesn't even blink anymore at it, they just do it. it costs them $0.01.

My dealer tried to foist a $350 TCM update an I was like LOL nice try guys go back and apply it for free. I tell all my customers to go do the same thing. Shysters are trying to get suckers to pay for their VIDA subscription.

What extended warranty do you have??

StarProtect Titanium. I bought it when I bought the car. Checked with the Volvo dealer, VB is considered an internally lubricated part. Warranty covers tranny case and all internally lubricated parts. So I guess we shall see, any idea if it throws a code or anything when it does finally poop out?

Good to know. Probably others here just going by experience. Looks like it's time for a tire rotation. Lol.

See if you can get a tech to bull**** a report that it's bad and get it replaced ;D

call their asses to the floor with VCNA if they claim to be a VSA dealer and won't do it. My dealer was that way at first, but if any dealer participates in the "parts for life" bull**** offer then they have to participate in the VSA service regimen, they can't pick and choose.

just print out the TSB, read it, and then tell them your car is exhibiting those problems. You don't tell them about the TSB at first. If they wont do it the first time, take it back, come back in a month and tell them the same though, and this time show them the TSB, so they know you mean business.

No need to bs. There's a Volvo technical service bulletin that addresses rough and slam shifts based on customer complaints. I'm considering an Omega warranty. Costs only a tad more than a vb replacement, but covers entire powertrain... I just need to see if the dealer has experience with them.

I brought mine in to the dealer get a tranny flush/refilled with new fluid and they included software upgrades. Basically anything available, they upgraded. After 1500 miles on the flush, car if shifting worse lol

A true flush can be counter productive if the car hasn't had regular trans fluid service. The flush process dislodges debris that is then pushed through the system and ends up in the VB. A full VB disassembly and cleaning is the only way to resolve it, which brings us full circle to the point of this thread.

90% of those warranties are complete crap. and you pay through the nose on the ones that are legit. We have people bring them into our shop all the time and we fill out all the claims only to be denied for some bull**** reason. Most legit warranties cost more than half what your car is worth.

I think I'll do this when I get closer to the expiration. Dealer said they just need to be able to prove its faulty to the warranty company with a vida diagnostic, so need a code to pop. It's already pretty bad. Tons of clicks, pretty good kick going from D to R and vice versa. Terrible terrible shifting in the tranny sport mode too.

Which is why I want to ask dealer experience before purchasing.

Yep! That worried me when I did my flush at the local dealer where u/AsianR works, he assured me that they have a special machine that doesn't the work. So far no problems what so ever :)

Did you check your mounts? Top engine and bottom trans mount?

The dealer machine is basically a continuous drain and fill that pumps in at the same rate of drain while car is running, and stopped when fluid coming out is clean. At least this is what my indy told me. Dealer sells pails of 20qt atf for this purpose supposedly as well.

So does this mean my caR is just a ticking time bomb if I don't spend $3K? If I'm only experiencing light issues (rough downshift into 1st sometimes. A bit of a kick going from D to R) should I have decent life left in this tranny or is it the beginning of the end?

I love this caR and would like to keep it for another decade, but after doing struts and brakes myself and paying for timing belt/water pump service it just seems like quite a money pit right around 100K (currently have 108xxx).
