Probably not news here, but after some actual trip use, I have to say it's probably the worst navigation device I've ever used, going back 10 years even. The clunky interface I can live with, but it cannot navigate you logically, ever. Not even just a quick trip from the mall home. It takes you on a myriad of small winding narrow roads that add time to the route, I would only rely on it if I was totally lost.
My 5 year old Garmin Nuvi with voice control that cost $200 way back then is light years better. It flies through voice commands and even after years of sitting in a drawer I can instantly use it easily. Unlike the Volvo.
I only got the platinum because it was a R design on a lot and had a fat discount on it, making it cost me about the same as a base 2015.5 R design w/o xenons even. I wonder if the 2015.5 is better. The stereo upgrade that comes with a 2015 Platinum is better, but nothing spectacular.
My Garmin fits into a cell phone cradle/mount from Pro Clip quite nicely and a 3 outlet power extension run to the area under the waterfall grill works to hide the cords pretty well. I just pretend I dont' have built-in Nav. Newer model Garmins costing $95 work better than this Volvo abomination.
Volvo would do better to simply provide a 6" hole with a power supply for aftermarket units (rather than the awkward dash top mount they charge nearly $900 for)
