I tend to do the same. Keeping the seats up also minimizes the indentions that can form in the seats when folded down. I think the seat belt buckles poke into the edge of the seats.
They do not. I have not had any issues with any of my XC90s, when the 3rd was folded down.

Congratulations!

This will be my first time owning a 7 seater. Most of the time, I won't need the third row. Is it okay to keep them folded almost all the time?
I always keep the 3rd row folded. The seats are brought up only when needed (which is not often).

There were no marks or indentations on my gen1-XC90, even after 12 years of keeping the 3rd row folded.
My gen2-XC90 is barely a year old and so far, it doesn't show any marks either.

Not a problem at all, i use the 3rd row about 1-2 times a month and after 1 year i have no problems or leather issues. Very easy to fold and unfold. I have the protective package and I use the trans covers to protect the back of the seats.

Happy driving, 13k miles and no issues, you are going to enjoy the car

That makes sense; I might end up doing the same. :)
Lucky for you folks living in safe well-behaved people. I wouldn't leave stuff lying around in the car where anyone can see lest I want those items nationalised without compensation :)

I keep my 3rd row seat folded and luggage cover closed, So far, though I'vve only had my car for 15months, never noticed or had any problems with the seats. Just ensure your seats are cleaned and have had a fair dose of leather cream applied before folding them down to ensure they remain in good condition.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience!

Regarding pre-ignition, no, I was using Top Tier regular (87) with my XC60 all the time. The service manage told me to use premium (93) and Chevron Techron, and even after 4 tanks, it's still doing it with premium fuel. They upgraded TCM, replaced cracked spark plugs, and installed an updated version of oil trap. I reached the magic number 4 (NC Lemon Law) before I got a chance to try the piston rings.

EDIT: What's weird is that, I didn't experience this during the first 15k miles or so. Regular fuel may be a contributor (even if XC60 T5 only requires regular), but would you think that using premium will only delay the onset of this symptom?
Did you have oil consumption since you said they replaced your oil trap? My guess is that faulty piston rings were causing oil consumption thus cold spots on the pistons and allowing for detonation which is why your spark plugs were cracked. TCM software had nothing to do with your concern. They should have known the issue when looking at the plugs but then again.... not every dealer has an expert tech ;)

The only problem is that the cover of the luggage compartment cannot be used with the third row up
You would think with the 14 years they had to work on the new XC90, they would have worked out one of the biggest complaints in the gen1-XC90...

I didn't have a significant oil consumption problem, but after 2,000 miles they did find the oil to be low by just 0.2 quarts.

I thought the TCM was part of the problem, since it doesn't downshift quickly enough, therefore lugging the engine? Although the TCM update didn't fix it.
