I just took delivery of my 2017 XC90 from Volvo of Southborough in Southborough, MA. Had a great experience there. I live in Pittsburgh, so my first time with the car was driving it about 500 miles back home. Was mostly highway and interstate driving, and I used PAII almost 75% of the time. Since there seem to be a lot of questions on how it works, wanted to share my impressions, along with other observations on the car.
It definitely requires the driver to keep a decent level of awareness. You have to be gripping the steering wheel, and also it sometimes cuts off. With moderately visible lanes, it works well but some construction markers throw it off. For most of the time though, it would maintain for long stretches, though sometimes I did not agree with its turn approach strategy and would override. A few times, it seemed that PAII and the LKA would trip each other up, or maybe it was just my override at the last minute that led to the LKA vibration. It responds well when changing lanes, loosening it's grip at turn signal activation and resuming with about 5-10 seconds of changing lanes. It definitely helped prevent fatigue during my almost 10 hour drive today.
Besides PAII, I really like the XC90. No defects I've noticed and haven't had any real problems with Sensus. Other than PAII and a second USB, I'm not aware of any new features on the 2017. I did have the Polestar optimization done, and the engine feels strong and responsive.
