I ordered a set of running boards for my 2021 XC60. Do they come with instructions for installation? Anyone have experience doing this?

My wife is only 5" 1" and has trouble getting in and out especially out.

Kids much shorter than that don't seem to have trouble, so I'm surprised any adult would need running boards. In my experience, they don't work well with these vehicles. They just get your pants dirty.

Have you actually tried an XC60 with running boards? Make sure it will actually help you in the way you need, before you spend the money. In my opinion, they don't work for most people.

I don't want to rain on your parade. Perhaps you'll find them useful. My mother, and my mother in law, are both in that age range and short-ish. But the running boards are just dangerous. It's so much easier to fall from them than when climbing in the car from the ground. They are simply too narrow to offer a safe footing surface, while at the same time wide enough to dirty your pants when entering/exiting.

If you have air suspensions, entry/exist settings that lower the car are more useful.

Your experience might differ - and I hope it does. But try them before you buy them, if you are in still in time to decide.

My experience with Volvo accessories is that the instructions are hit or miss. Something like running boards are going to be more complex than, say, installing a bike rack.

If you're adamant on DIY, perhaps you can convince the dealer where you bought the running boards to print out the installation instructions and give them to you?

I have found this to be true of just about every car with running boards I have seen. My sister in law is "less than tall" and they have them on their Jeep Grand Cherokee, and their F150. I can't see them helping that much, and they do get in the way of normalish people like me. I think they actually help her, especially on the F150, but I agree with what you said overall.
