Hi, I just got a used 2017 XC60 CPO and now thinking of buying a pre-paid maintenance with wear plan for it. Based on your experience is it worth it?

Also, if you are in a similar boat and are thinking of purchasing it - please let me know - there might be a way to get a group discount..

Thank you,

Henry

Generally these policies are not a good deal. You can often find coupons for 20 or 25% off service. The Prepaid Maintenance Plan locks you into the dealership for service at a set rate. And service costs vary from dealer to dealer. I.E. Local dealer charges $175 for an alignment. Dealer about 80 miles away that I use (prefer their loaners + customer service over a shuttle ride.... and no loaners) charged $75 for same alignment.

The wear gives you Brakes, Rotors, Pads, and Free Wiper Blades. Again, same advice applies.

I have the Prepaid Maintenance + Wear on my car but i paid ZERO. Given to me as an apology. So I am happy with not footing the bill for dealer services. But would I have bought the plan otherwise? No.

Every 10K is oil change. Also a LOT and I mean a LOT of the maintenance schedules are "visual checks". You can do a lot of the work at an Indie much cheaper! If you want to use a Volvo Dealership, check for coupons. Most dealers have 15-20% off service. Much cheaper than PrePaid.

Not sure about that one, so maybe someone else can answer.

I do know if you look at the Maintenance Schedule most items are nothing more than visual inspections. So if you aren't bothered after the 3 free maintenance end, find a good indie mechanic or clip a few 20% off coupons for Volvo.

Prepaid is only worth it if you include the wear+tear coverage and actually need to replace something. For example if you need brakes and rotors changed (rear ones get eaten up). Otherwise just pay when you need to. Like others have said, Volvo and the dealers will send coupons.

I don't think you need to service at the dealers to keep the CPO active, you just need to keep the receipts. Unfortunately I always go to the dealer because there are always problems I need them to fix under CPO (S80 here).

Correct with the caveat if something is broken or done incorrectly, Volvo won't cover 3rd party workmanship under the warranty.

Still, the only reason reason to use Dealer is if you prefer dealer does the work vs. Volvo Indie Mechanic. And if you choose dealer, coupons are the best route. Even if you need Brakes / Routers / Pads.
