Does anyone know what type of gearbox is in the XC40 (assuming it's the same box no matter what engine).

I'm pretty sure I read it's an 8-speed Aisin Warner but I don't know if it's hydraulic or DCT i.e. Geartronic or Powershift.

It's the same transmission found in any Volvo that has a Drive-E engine; Aisin-Warner 8-speed Geartronic.

Same here. The AW 8-speed is extremely smooth.
+1. Every magazine seems to praise the DSG, though in my experience having owned 3 with different engine/transmission (wet clutch, dry cluthc)combinations , I can wholeheartedly say a good TC transmission is much preferable for me. It wouldn't hurt if Volvo updated their transmission SW though since every single review I've read mentions the unresponsiveness during take off and spirited driving.

Its good to hear, but as usual Volvo is too late with its introductions, one should not wait a year for an auto transmission. The combination of 3 cyl with auto tranny should prove very popular with European buyers.

What is the incentive to get a T3 instead of T4? Lower emission tax? How much is the diff? American will not want a slow T3 for sure.
