Why does nobody look at S60R parts? 300hp shouldn't be hard. The B5254T3 and B5254T4 are almost identical; both based on the B5254T2. Except the R puts out 300hp.

There were only a few differences that jumped out at me, maybe others can elaborate:
R: ME7.1
S: ME9.0
R: Forged crankshaft
S: Heavy crankshaft due to different motor mounts.
R: Con-rod bearings are lead-bronze
S: Con-rod bearings are copper-lead (i.e. no tin, different alloy)
R: Con-rod big end "cracked" cap
S: Con-rod big end "split" cap
R: 19 gear teeth on coolant pump (faster)
S: 21 gear teeth on coolant pump (slower)
R: Turbo 20% larger than B5254T3, maximum boost 1.1bar (16 psi)
S: Turbo-fold, obviously 20% smaller, maximum boost 0.7 bar (10 psi)
R: Manifold from XC90 - B5254T2
S: Turbo-fold is the manifold
R: Cooling fan has 13 blades and 7 speeds
S: Cooling fan has 7 blades and 6 speeds
R: Dual cat-back exhaust runs
S: Single 60mm exhaust pipe
R: Two intercoolers, one behind the AC condenser and one in front of the radiator in the lower bumper
S: One intercooler in the same place as the S60R intercooler
So, why can't I go to a scrapyard, find a R that's been rear-ended, and grab:
- Exhaust manifold
- Turbo
- Downpipe to cutup for parts
Then order from Volvo:
- R crankshaft
- R pistons
- R conrods
- R coolant pump
Then build/fabricate/buy:
- Better IC, like Evolve or Kyle's
- Mandrel bent intake piping
- 3" turbo-back exhaust
And finally tune to 300hp? It sounds like a lot, but unless I'm
it's under $5K for everything. What am I missing?
