Re: When is the C30 due for an Update? (Shomare)

According to reports, the new model would be powered by the same 2.5-liter inline-five cylinder turbo engine that powers the new Ford Focus RS. One difference between the two cars, which share a similar platform, is that the Swedish beauty would be offered with a Haldex all-wheel drive system in contrast to the Blue Oval's torque-steer inducing front-engine, front-drive layout. Larger 20-inch wheels ought to fill out the arches quite nicely, and a special body kit should bring the whole look closer to the tarmac. To keep demand high, Volvo may limit the new model to 4,500 units worldwide, though we have no idea where it will offer the hatch besides the U.K. Considering that the Swedish automaker has diluted its R-nameplate, we're also not certain what this performance-minded C30 will be called, but we're sure it'll be the most fun we've had in a Volvo for quite a long time.

Volvo has confirmed it will build a 300bhp, all-wheel drive version of the C30 hatchback and could link its new performance image with a return to the British Touring Car Championship.

This will be hottest performance model the Swedish brand has built for years, and the company is expected to ensure its exclusivity by limiting total production to less than 4500 cars over four years.

High British demand for high-performance derivatives means that the UK market has been market to take up to 40 percent of the total output, translating into 1800 cars.

The ultra-hot C30 will share its powerplant with the forthcoming Ford Focus RS, meaning a 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder petrol engine. However, unlike its blue oval cousin, the Volvo will get a Haldex-derived four-wheel drive system.

Volvo has yet to confirm the name the new car will carry, but we know it will be sitting on 20-inch wheels with colour-keyed brake calipers, a special body kit and motorsport seats. The rest of the C30 range will receive a general revamp and facelift at the same time.

Insiders say that one marketing strategy involves selling limited batches of the cars in striking primary colours, with numbered series plates featured in the cabins.

Volvo is believed to be considering linking the ultimate C30 with a return to the British Touring Car Championship, with a front-driven version of the car powered by a bio-ethanol fuelled engine. A similar car has already featured in the World Touring Car series.

I'm getting so jealous reading about the C30R. Must repeat "too expensive, too expensive"

They can't be priced at or above the 135i...or could they?

I've said it before. But I've seen a white C30, BIG brakes and BIG wheels, bigger rear spoiler and alu-mirrors. NICE! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

The best thing is that I saw it when I visited Volvo the last time. Inside the fence!

I'll believe it when I see it.

Regarding torque steer, the C30 has so little as to be virtually unnoticeable. I'm sitting around 280hp/300 lb-ft right now and torque steer is a non-issue. That being said, as a Canadian citizen, I'm all for AWD.

Re: (EvilKen)

The ST does share the same engine as the C30 but there isn't much chance that the RS will ever see our shores.

The Ecoboost engines are Ford's newest offerings. Direct Injection and turbo charging allow the engines to run on 86 octane while still putting out impressive horsepower and milage. The SVT Taurus for example puts out offers a 365 bhp V6 while still delivering decent milage.

You can read more about them on the Ford website: http://media.ford.com/pdf/ecoboost.pdf

I'm sure it will have the manaul.
If for no other reason than to keep the price down.
In fact, I HOPE they don't offer it with an automatic at all.
It will keep the posers away.

That's the only thing that kept the last R32 from being successful imo.. well, that and not offering it in five door form. People were excited about it, until they heard it wasn't available with a manual gearbox. So, they held on to their '04s..

C30T5 with a chip and some and with a good suspension shows hardly any signs of torque steer and has very good traction control.

Driving our project C30 T5M this week. Its got the reflash, intercooler, coilovers and its a blast to drive - it will give my chipped 2.0T GTI a run for its money - really please with how the C30 drives, it is really fun. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
