Anyone know what changes were made from the base v70 to the V70 r-design that result in the "sport-tuned suspension"?
Just wondering if anybody had any specifics on the upgrades.
thanks

What is a "sport-tuned suspension"?

The 2010 V70 3.2 R-Design ($38,000) features a stiffer suspension and 245/40R18 tires on 18-inch alloy wheels. The R-Design comes with all the items in the Premium Package, but replaces the wood trim with metallic Deco inlays. Additional upgrades include Watch Dial instruments, a sport steering wheel, and unique pedals, shift knob, and floormats. Outside, the R-Design features a silk-metal-finish grille and mirrors, black aluminum side window trim, a tailgate spoiler, and special trim.

On the new 2010 V70 R-Design model, the bright metal around and within the grille has a subtle silk finish. There's matching trim on the outside mirrors, while the side windows are highlighted with what Volvo calls black aluminum. A tailgate on the spoiler and bold 18-inch wheels complete the go-fast image.

In the new R-Design model, the Scandinavian-Modern feel is further enhanced by unique instrument styling that Volvo calls Watch Dial, and by trim inlays the company calls Deco. Steering wheel, shift knob, pedals, and floor mats are also specific to this model and add to its sporty appeal.

And the new R-Design model promises sharper handling.

18-inch Cratus alloy wheels and lowered sports-tuned suspension comprising higher-rated anti-roll bars and bushings. The V70 T6 R-Design sits 20mm lower at the front, and 15mm lower at the rear than the standard V70 T6.

There is also a colour-matched rear spoiler, matt-satin finish grille and exterior mirrors and 90 mm chrome exhaust pipes. So as not to confuse the neighbours, the V70 makes its presence known with a special badge set into the grille.

Inside, R-Design customers gain the added comfort of extra side bolstering in the two-tone leather sport seats, along with a leather-rimmed R-Design steering wheel, new instruments with blue inserts, a sports shift lever and the use of unique aluminium trim on areas such as the centre stack and floor pedals.

V70 R-Design

Lowered chassis (20mm front; 15mm rear)
Colour-coded rear spoiler
Full leather sports seats with embossed R-Design logo
Exclusive 18" R-Design alloys
Twin 90 mm chrome exhaust
Satin matt finish to side mirrors and grill
Sports steering wheel, gear shift knob and pedals
R-Design instrumentation
R-Design floor mats with contrasting piping

VIDS of the imho nicest VOLVO to date, the V70RD, awesome!!!

Thanks CC!
All I could ever find was the vague "sport-tuned suspension" statement, it is good to see some more details.
I've been driving my "new" 2010 V70 RD for a few days now and I really like the ride, so much better than the XC70 T6.

I believe you. The V70 RD must have be a much better ride. Especially in the corners and in the city I imagine? How about long distance, you still prefer the V70 and why? I would love to drive one. Just a V70 would be a bit boring but the R looks so nice.

Send us some close-up pics... we are always hungry for car porn!

V70 awesome
