Watch out for aftermarket shifter blinds

I had picked up an aftermarket shifter blind, wasn't paying attention to the brand at checkout. Install went smooth and everything seemed to work fine until I tried manual mode. Couldn't upshift or downshift, and it would switch back and forth from D to manual mode just touching the shifter. The brake interlock has acted up a few times as well, had to use the interlock release to get into gear. It has something to do with the magnet, maybe the position or size is wrong.

Ordered a genuine Volvo shifter blind and now everything is working perfect. I thought it might be the circuit board at first, but the $250 price tag made me try the oem shifter blind first. Glad I did.

My shifter blind is also somewhat broken onmy 2011 C70. Not too terribly so but it is broken. Couldn't I just break it up and remove it- it is just plastic? But is the circuit board attached to the under side of it or is the circuit board separate unit under it? I obviously do not want to remove or break it if the circuit board is attached to it. Thanks for answering this query.

The blind is actually underneath the circuit board, so it all has to come apart to get at it. It's not attached to the circuit board, it just has a magnet that tells the board what gear it's in. You can't just break it up and pull it out, it's sandwiched in between the top casing on the shifter.

There are some how-to videos on youtube that really helped me out:
