Hi all,

I'm looking at a 2020 Volvo s60 or a Mercedes c300 as my next car and doing some research to make sure I know what I actually want.

From what I can see, most of the S60s I've seen on the market are either an Inscription or a R-Design trim level. What is the difference between the two? It seems like the price difference is minimal.

I know Volvo has a reputation for being very reliable, is there anything I need to look out for in these cars/engine?

Does the interior have all the features of a modern car? My current and only car is a 2014 Fiesta so I'm not familiar with what tech comes in newer cars.

Has the S60 been discontinued, at least for the UK market?

Thanks,
Chris

3 Trim Levels in 2020.
Momentum. Base model. Cheapest. You could add a few packages to these but this has the least standard features.
RDesign. Middle trim. More of an appearance package. Nicer rims. Different blackened trim pieces. Nicest seats. Every package was available on this car.
Inscription. Top of the line. Almost every option. Still had a few packages available to it.
Personally would only consider RDesign or Inscription.
Things only Inscription has: ventilated and massaging seats. Interior colored ambient lighting...wish I had that. And rear seat HVAC controls on the console.
I don't want to say the engines are bullet proof. They're not. But these cars don't have engine or transmission problems.
The things that will kill your wallet are a failing AC compressor. Or sunroof drains that flood your car and destroy the electronics. Or on the T8, an ERAD failure. Or maybe the digital display dies. Thankfully not common but a $2,000 repair if you can't do it yourself. It's surprisingly easy.
It's very loaded with technology. You'll want for nothing with a fully loaded Inscription.
Yes. It's discontinued. That's not a reason to avoid. Parts are readily available and will be longer then you will own it.
The manual is available online under the owners section of Volvocars.com if you want to skim it.
Look for *'s ... That will basically indicate "This feature ain't on Momentum". 🤣

The R-design has a bit lower suspension. If you're lucky enough you might find one with the sport chassis. The sport chassis wasn't offered very long tho.
I believe that depends on the market though. It's true for the US but as far as I know, R-design came with sport chassis by default in Canada. Don't know about the UK though. Keep in mind the sports chassis rides quite harshly, very good body control but it is firm. I test drove an inscription first which I found incredibly smooth and sure footed. I ended up buying an r-design mostly for the looks and the seats (superb and very comfortable).

Also you can get the fancy rear seats climate control console on r-designs as well. At least in Canada it came with the climate package from what I've seen.

I love the Fiestas, I had a 2015 I bought new when I was at Ford, very nimble car. Popular out your way, sold horrible here in the states.

The S60 is a whole different scope of automobile. The tech though is easy to use. R design seats are love or hate. Worth a sit to see if you like. If your fiesta was an ST then you'd want the R design for sure. But really, it's a personal choice which is best. I always described it more like a tree branch split than a tier. For me, Advanced Package cars would be the most important package, in the US at least, that's how you got adaptive cruise and pilot assist (as well as 360 camera and HUD, of which I could care less about). I am a driver, but sometimes driving isn't fun, and the ACC/PA is a really great feature.

Biggest thing for me....remote start is not key fob based, it is app/subscription based. Not sure if that is different in other markets or not.

Note, my 2020 V60 in the US did not come with the come with the sport chassis. I know shopping used here in the US, you usually looked at the first level trim level, then you had to dig in more to confirm if it had any option packages. Adaptive cruise, the 360 cameras, HUD, HK or BW stereo, rear climate controls, etc. The options shifted around a bit year to year.

Luckily we have Mid City Engineering which makes a Remote Start system for our cars. Haven't done it yet, but probably will when my free year is up. I like the app, but truly don't need worldwide remote start. And if I did, I'd probably go with Drone Mobile and the MCE solution.

$200/year.
Also includes roadside assistance.
Notified you if it's unlocked.
Shows if your windows or sunroof are open.
GPS Locator when parked.
If it is stolen, law enforcement can ask Volvo to track it in some places.
Beep horn, flash lights.
Gives your current MPG.
Driving Journal that tracks all your trips.
