I can not find anything on this forum that clearly details production numbers for each color (interior and exterior) and transmission type. Is this type of information only obtainable via Volvo? Keeping in mind that the company has changed hands several times since my car was made in 2005.

I have searched all over the forum and the internet and can not come up with anything that helps me. I am specifically looking for north America deliveries for 2005 with full details of how many of each exterior color, interior color and transmission type.

^ this. Even Volvo doesn't know as far as I know, and if they do, they aren't sharing. Only total production for each year is known

At one point people discovered that they could email Volvo customer service regarding the rarity of their colorway and transmission type and they would actually respond with numbers. However, when word spread and they got inundated with these requests, they changed the policy to say it wasn’t available. I’m sure Volvo has specific numbers but probably have the OSD-type vehicles in separate files. Good luck!

Totally agree. In various ways, I've tried to find out how many of the 279 V90s (the R and the Inscription, not the CC), sold in 2020 in the USA were the non-R Inscriptions. Volvo Corp was of no help. I know my car is rare, since I haven't another in NJ in the (now) 33 months I've owned my car, although I've seen a few Rs. This info. would be nice to know.

Someone here started a spreadsheet years ago but I don’t think it ever was completed.
I did find that there were 823 VRs made for the US market in 2006.
Of the 823, 12 were Sonic/Atacama (10 automatic and 2 manual) and 28 were Sonic/Nordkap (19 automatic and 9 manual). I couldn’t find Sonic/Gobi numbers. One post said there were 186 total Sonic VRs in ‘06 which would mean 146 Sonic/Gobi Wagons. However, another post said there were 186 Sonic SRs, not VRs, so I’m not sure.

Yes, I saw that post about 2006 numbers. I am looking for 2005 V70R, by exterior color, by interior color, by transmission type. Here is my back of the napkin number. To start I used the 2006 numbers, 823 total cars and all colors, from what can guess and figure.

First number is exterior/second is interior/third number is transmission
Exterior colors & percent of total (amounts based on what was popular in 2006)
Flash Green Metallic 8%
Sonic Blue 15%
Red 11%
Black Met 21%
Silver Met 29%
Titanium Grey 16%

Interior colors & percent of total (amounts based on limited forum posts)
Nordkap 15%
Atacama 6%
Gobi 78%

Transmissions & percent of total (amounts based on limited forum posts)
Automatic 72%
Manual 28%

Now, for my car, Gray, Atacama, manual. 674 total cars in 2005

Gray = 108 cars
Atacama with gray exterior = 6 cars
Gray, Atacama with manual = 2 cars

Of course this is full of errors in how customers blend exterior with interior and type of transmission, but you have to admit it's sort of interesting. What do you all think? Anything to add?

I purchased from original owner his post is above Below is part of original owner comments from his sales post above.
“I am the only owner of this car since its birth 1/25/2005. Special ordered it through Don Beyer Volvo in Dulles, VA, because at the time no dealer in the metro area had a Titanium Grey VR with Atacama leather interior in 6speed Manual gearbox.”

People comment about car everywhere 320,000 miles very special.

First one I was serious about was a manual atacama inside Titanuim. Guy emailed me on Mother's day 2015 (instead of calling) and said he needed to hear from me in an hour or he was selling it to the next guy. I had the authorization from my wife to fly and drive back from Chicago. It worked out - I like my car and I'm in too deep now... LOL
MY TOP choice would be a manual atacama VR, wrapped in Electric Silver. THAT would be stunning.
I've only ever seen pictures... and it was rolling on Volution Vs!

Agree 100%. Customer service is a BIG part of business. Find an intern and have someone look at records, backcheck work and publish. Cannot be that hard. These aren't cars that were built in the 1880s... THAT actually may be easier to achieve! LOL

#23 ·
Yep. They have it and have provided it in the past. Just too many requests eating into their Customer Service department employee time.

“Dear Volvo, I am the proud new owner of a car you produced 20 years ago. I would like to know how many 2003 V70 T5’s in Minstrel Green Metallic and Taupe leather interior with a manual transmission and no moonroof with Premium audio and no Cold Weather package were produced?”

I would personally love to have solid build numbers, of course, but you can see how it would become a time-suck.

#24 ·
Not when their records are all digital. Query and publish, done. Then you get very FEW calls from people asking, unless they're afraid there's data they don't want to publish for general consumption for some reason, like there were actually white VRs or 7 speed manual Rs or Rs that had carbon fiber and aluminum bodies or engines made of some rare metal or ones with special black alcantara interior... or maybe it's just a plain hiding real numbers thing. Like the US manufacturers did back in the day to boost numbers for records to get tax shelters or claim losses. Otherwise, phooey. They should for posterity and record keeping for the enthusiasts who love this stuff, PUBLISH and release.

#25 ·
Agreed. If they published the data for the models with the most interest they would cut down on inquiries. Pay an intern to work on it and post it in a searchable database. Maybe some information stayed with FoMoCo?

#29 ·
I would love to know how many manual v70r were produced. I believe it is less than 1000, but confirmation would be nice.

#33 ·
Yup, 3,407. That's why real details would be fun. You're one of less than 20% (2005) and then you thin it further by being M66, moreso by color and then options.

#34 ·
The R cars are very unusual indeed. I remember when they came out and thinking these are the coolest wagons around, why aren’t they selling in larger numbers?

#36 ·
From what I recall when ordering my wagon, the sun roof was part of the Premium Package. I think that also included the upgraded stereo system, but it's been 18 years so I may be mistaken. Over the years I don't remember anyone giving production numbers that included sun roof / no sun roof, just AT, MT, exterior color, and interior color.

#37 ·
I used the production numbers for my 2006 VR to get stated value insurance from State Farm. Here in Northern California, we are Volvo Country. My friend at the dealer told me years ago that most buyers were just looking for a top-of-the-line model and didnt really care about the HP. At one time in my small city in 2011 had a population of 10K yet we had 3 VR wagons in town.

If any of you has the number of manual v70r s produced that would be great.

I must be a camp all by myself, I love my sunroof and use it all the time.

I’m in your camp. Keep it clean and use it in nice weather.

Totally makes sense given the climate. One thing I love about the sunroof is that I can open it on hot days after the car has been sitting and all the heat goes out the roof. Aaaaand then I close it again lol
