V70R Interior

Hi all. I'm new to this site and am in the UK. This seems to be the best forum and I need some advice. I used to own a V70 R with the nordkap interior. Unfortunately, it had to be sold due to personal reasons and now I'm in the market for a new one. There is a black 2006 model that I'm looking at. It has the atacama interior though, which I'm not 100% sure I like. There seems to be a lot of discussion on this topic, and I know it ultimately comes down to personal preference, but your opinion would be appreciated. There also seems to be some discussion on here about it being less likely to crack, or at least seen to crack...Thanks

Atacama is stronger, thicker and more durable. But not as soft.

Yeah swap out the orange floor mats for black and it will tone down the interior. I like the IPD molded plastic mats and keep them in year round. Its a beautiful color!

That's exactly what I did and it does look a lot better with some contrast. Orange mats were a bit too much.

Atacama changes color with water, it turns darker where the water is absorbed, but it dries out to the original color. My door panels are always getting soaked, no stains.

Ditto that. I often get in the car in pouring rain with a very wet jacked, the leather goes real dark until it dries out. No adverse effect. Plus it freaks passengers out so they tend to be more careful with the upholstery.

It comes down to personal taste, but Atacama - especially with a black exterior - is very unique and I think really cool.
You really would have a rare color combo.
As Car & Driver said - interior by Masarti.

Re: V70R Interior (Tomo220)

Atacama = HOTNESS, like KB hotness.

Nordkap which I have is real nice but damn its fragile (just read the numerous threads).

And Gobi, well, ummmmm...... This time I will keep my mouth shut, because I don't want the reaction I got for when I stated my opinion about 17" Pegs

I love my Atacama leather interior; it compliments the Flash Green very nicely.

Someone did manage to stain my rear seat

Imma have to start frisking people when they get in my car and making sure they don't have any opened liquids.

You cannot compare the Atacama to either Nordkap or Gobi. IT WAS AN UPGRADE and had an upgrade price associated with it. A totally different type of leather and not apples to apples with the others. If you like orange, go for it.

Re: (TWMn)

Upgrade price of $1,500 when the vehicle was already costing some upwards of around $45,000 after taxes. It should be treated just like the other leathers as this vehicle was not some cheap $20,000 car with the leather upgrade costing an extra 10% of vehicle cost. The cost was not that significant and many regret their decisions after purchase. I was lucky enough to change my order to Atacama from Norkcrap.

Re: (dave_n_ruth)

I have Gobi and after viewing this forum daily an seeing all the different pics I really wish that I would have done more research prior to purchasing! Because I LOVE ATACAMA, Even though I've never actually seen/touched in person....Now that being said my Gobi is super sensitive as well one little drop of water changes the color and I recently cleaned at treated(1/10 Woolite to h2o and Lexol) and honestly It doesn't look that much better now? maybe I didn't do something right but it still looks dirty to me in spots, like the armrest?

Re: (wynn lai)

Sorry, but I saw all three colors in person before I placed my order, and even if Atacama wasn't $1500 more with hideous carpets, I would have picked the Nordkap.

Nordkap is butter soft, gorgeous, and continues the blue theme found in the stitching and watch dial gauges. The deep blue carpet is a classy touch as well, and really sets off aluminum pedals.

I also think the dual nature or the Nordkap matches the R the best. In darker lighting, it appears charcoal grey, but in direct sunlight, the metallic blue shines. This dual nature really fits the sleeper performance sedan nature of the R.

What is interesting is back in '04, everyone was talking about how fragile Atacama was, how it would show wear (e.g. ass prints), and about how you had to be careful of stains and what cleaner to use.

Now Nordkap is the fragile one, go figure.

mine still looks great and gets lots of compliments.

The only thing I will say about Gobi is that it makes sense in Passion Red and Flash Green.

Atacama does look really nice in black though, just have to get rubber mats and keep your eyes above floor level...
