If it's like a lot of cars I know, there may be some tabs towards the bottom that you may have to push in while trying to get the headrest out...otherwise, I have no clue...

Seriously - I think the headrests are fixed in because they are integral to the WHIPS system... otherwise the fold down front seat would be far more useful!

 

My fold down front seat works just fine. The head rest goes below the glove-box. Move seat all the way to the rear while keeping the seat-back in an upright position. Pull the two seat release levers in the back. Now fold the seat forward and at the same time actuate the seat-back power lever making the seat-back move forward. This changes the angle just enough to allow the headrest to slip under the dash.

I saw a diagram of the whips system and it showed a solid piece of metal, or something, going all the way up the seat back to the top of the head rest. It's definitely part of the WHIPS and not removeable.

Also keep in mind that putting a sheep skin cover on your seat will interfere with your SIPS, specifically the airbag module that is located in the side of the driver and passenger seat-back. Volvo specifically warns against putting any kind of seat cover over the front seats.

Really. I have the manually adjusted passenger seat and it's just a few mm away from not going under the dash when i fold it. I don't understand why they didn't make the tracks just a little longer so it would fold more easily

Do you have the fold down front seat with the two latches in the back? I'm just asking because I think the US models only get that option with power seats (or maybe all V50's)

Try pulling your manual seat-back adjuster and moving the seat. Honestly I couldn't get mine to go down all the way and on a whim I played with the seat-back adjuster and found that moving it forward (like making the seat-back go from a layed back postion to a straight up postion is one is sitting in the seat) made just enough room for the head rest to clear the dash.

IIRC, you're not supposed to put seatcovers on the seats because of the side airbags.

Mine isn't even close to fitting below the gearbox and I have tried to move the seat all the way back... I will have to try again but so far I am not impressed with that feature...

And I do have the power seats with the two latches on the back
