Hello, sorry if I make any mistakes while posting my first post.
I'm learning mechanics at my school and we wore changing the timing belt on a Volvo v50 2.0D year 2005.
As we don't learn alone, a bunch of us go around one car, and when some wore at the end of changing the belt ( it was all ok, the belt was fittet perfectly, it spinned quite nicely wiht out ant hiccups ( didin't try to start it ofcourse ) and then so others could learn how to fit the belt on he teacher told my group to take it off and let others put it on. After they put the belt on they tryed turning it with a wrench on camshaft bolt, and it went wrong, the tensioner wasnt properly secured, and the belt skipped 2 teeth of the camshaft. Now after that we've tryed returning everything back to normal but it doest work, we're 75% sure we didin't end the engines life, so is it somehow possible to get everything back together after the camshaft and the other one ( I forgot how it's called but it's at lowest point of the engine ) got scrambled, I mean just both not synchronised. We tryed searching factory markings, but failed. So if anyone one of you understood our situation and know a fix to this or at least some kind of remedy to get on track, that would be great.
Sincerely,
Darius

Engine is fine for now. Do NOT start it until you are 100% sure the belt is properly in place.
Crankshaft is on the bottom.
Camshaft is on the top.
The diesel doesn't have markings like the others as far as I know. You must remove the starter & insert a special dowel pin to properly locate the crankshaft. A dowel also goes through the camshaft gear into the head at approximately the 4 o'clock position. I would highly recommend a shop manual at this point so you can see exactly what you need to do.
