Re: tell me if i should.... (taiwright)

The only question I have is do these modifications increase, or decrease, the value of a Volvo S60R? Mods aside, this is a VERY high price for a 2004 with ~28K miles. The value of the mods can only be determined by the buyer... you.

EDIT: Had to resize the photos... they were HUGE!!!

What's "custom" about the interior, other than the shift knob, pedals and dangerous A-pillar gauge pod (it's in the path of the side curtain airbag)? The tall, black shift knob makes me want to puke, but the car is otherwise looking very nice. There is another picture showing a short silver ball, which looks MUCH better. The dash looks pretty hacked up.

Let us know what you decide, but consider making an offer somewhere south of the asking price.

i think the mods depreciate the price of a car if you take it to a dealer. because most dealers don't like modified cars...

But for the average Joe, it might be tempting beause you save all the money for buying all the parts. If you were to want those mods...

I guess it's like RainyS60R said. the mods value are determined by whoever wants them.

It's not dangerous & its not in the path of the side curtain airbag

Are you sure about that? The airbag is behind at least a portion of that A-pillar, no? I wouldn't want anything mounted there if it is. Fortunately, I haven't had the pleasure of seeing a deployed curtain airbag and cannot confirm one way or another.

Here is a good shot of the airbag mounting point:

BTW, if you look at the top right of the picture, there is a retaining clip that is designed to hook into the hole on the a-pillar. It allows maybe 1/2" to 3/4" of an inch of movement for the a-pillar trim to come off during airbag deployment. The trim will more or less stay in place. No danger from pillar gauges anywhere.

well ive been talkin to the guy here. he is most likely gunna throw in 6, yes 6 pegs with tires, evolve springs, 2 shift knobs, and a buncha other goodies.

the car was owned by a local here who was commuting back and forth to pittsburg. he said the vast majority of the mile are highway. he also said all his modifications were put in around 18k.

i was looking into the same mods as are on this car anyway
(evolve powerpack, evolve aero pack, etc) and now i dont have to buy all that, pay for shipping, and pay for installation

what would you fellas offer?

Honestly if you inteded to mod an R it would cost you over 10K to do what he has done. Does that necessarily make the car worth 10 more K? No, but it all depends on the buyer. I would say that 23-24 would be reasonble for a mint condition R with that milage. Its a really nice car and that is my favorite color combo. 28K for all that really isn't bad, and the spare rims and tires make it even sweeter.

You have to consider the fact though that maintenace might bite you if your local dealer voids any of the powertrain warranty or suspension warranty ased on the mods. Its what what we all deal with each time we add a mod to our cars, but this time your buying one already all done and have to be prepared in case something goes wrong. I personally rather buy cars stock and mod after. Less trouble ususally comes for that. Buying a modded car can be dangerous.

First consider if you want a moderatly modified car and if you do and you conviced on that car, I'd try to get it for 25-26K.

thanks for the insight. my R is bone stock and its a GT. I want the MT too which is an added bonus. i think im going to try to get it for 25. i havent ever seen the wheels he has on it on any other car here either.

tai

The wheels look good. I love black wheels with a polished lip on a black car. Looks stealth. Body kit looks well fitted too http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I don't know about this. I still don't like the idea of that gauge there. You can say what you want about it being OK. I wouldn't want it there. You never know what the combo of an impact along with that airbag deploying can do to something mounted on the a-pillar. Things can shift. No thanks. I agree with Tryg on this.

I can understand your sentiment.

However, the TOP of the pillar won't move more than a couple of inches, so the bottom is fine.

If you sleep better at night, though....

do you guys think its a good buy? the car as a whole...the mods, the engine work, the goodies he's gunna throw in...

tai

I think if you can get it for 25 that it would be a steal. You could part out the mods and go back to stock and probably make money on the car.

I think the car looks great and a lot of expensive mods which I like, just got to be happy with the decision and there is always the added risk of problems from the mods but obviously you already know about all of that. I would personally offer around $25,000 and play hard ball from there and see how they react. It's a very nice looking car to me and I really like the Evolve kit, just too much money to add it and pay for it myself.
Are you going to keep the wheels that are on it, let me know how they look in person and I am going to look at the brand and see what they cost, they look good from the pictures? Found them for $243.00 online.
