I never use the parking brake, but someone else drove my car, and pulled the lever waaaaaay too high. now i drove the car this morning, and the lever has no tension, and it feels like i ran over something on the back right wheel. How do i get the parking brake to detach? i jacked the car up, but cannot see the cable, even when the parking brake was moved up and down.

Re: Stuck Parking Brake (jermel)

The only way to release the parking brake now would be to remove the right rear rotor and unhook it from inside...or fix it while it's open.

Yup. It sure do.

You may have experienced the dreaded shearing off of the parking shoe pad that plagues Volvos. If you're handy, and plan on removing the rotor to remedy this, you might as well pick up a set up parking brake shoes and put the new ones on. It will likely be a beeeatch to get the rotor off as well.

(I do use it, I just don't tell anyone.... just like I have no plans to tell anyone that I'm thinking about buying PSII AS for the "new" global climate warming change winters we're having here in Philly (haven't seen snow in a decade

Hey 'goon I have a tip for ya. Just came back from a trip to Allentown airport, home of Wheel Collision Center http://www.wheelcollision.com/ http://********************/smile/emthup.gif I dropped off 4 18" pegs and they checked them for me. Two of them were nasty bent/ out of round. I had them refinished, and had two "new" P-Zero Rossos (that were "given" to me because people like you have convinced everyone here that Rossos are no good -- and thanks for that, very much, I owe you

) mounted on the other wheels and road force ballanced. yes it was expensive, but I swear to Darwin -- the "reconditioned" wheels, which had deep curb damage, look better thand new and match "silver bright" peg colour exactly. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Stuck Parking Brake (petew)

I always use it. I always have used it. I always will use it. If it breaks I will fix it. If it causes damage it will be repaired. These are the laws I live by. These are the laws that shall break me. The End!

I'm not sure. I'm stuck here, I am not from here. Been here 5 years via Germany, originally from Seattle.

1 - removed rotor, and it was a beeeatch.
2 - it looked like a pinball machine inside, as everything had sheared off. no wonder it sounded like i was dragging a 12 speed bike.
3- did not replace, as the one on the left side is working.

lesson learned - dont let friends drive your car.

My car sat for a week at my house and the parking brake was stuck. I had to rock it back and forth in a very aggressive manner to finally free it. It happened again when my car was parked at the airport for 2 weeks (in the garage so no rain) and it did the same thing. Both times the brake was engaged only enough to keep it from rolling, so I am not sure why it becomes stuck.

Re: (phuz)

I had this happen once, and I got lucky.

It was with my SR, the handle would not release the brake. So I very gingerly rocked the car a bit, and tried again. The brake released without any excess craziness.

Maybe the spring(at least I think there's a spring) is getting stuck?

Another common problem for this car. It never feels good rocking her back and forth until it the ebrake 'unsticks' itself. First time this happened, it worried me. Now it pretty much happens anytime I drive in bad weather and let the car sit for a couple of days.

Good ole' volvo. I'll be happy to have moved on if my r ever sells.

mine sticks every once and a while. the worst was when i washed my car one morning. didnt drive it all day, and the next morning i went to roll down my driveway and the car didnt go back. i put it in reverse and heard a loud clunk. it was the e-brake breaking free

my 2 cents.

i had this happen to my car while on the sales lot. i negotiated a lower price and i was happy. the rear pbrake locked and couldn't move the car. after a few jumps of the car it broke free, but the ebrake lever didn't work anymore.

i get around to breaking it down and after some investigation i didn't like the way the ebrake cable was moving. hard to push the shoe adjuster in and out. more so on my left rear. i opened up the console inside behind the parking brake lever and under the armrest's innards. the connection to the cables is here and they were no longer attached. i tried to pull the cable towards the front of the car and it was a bear but i came and loosened the adjustment on the rear shoes.

i invested in the cable about 60 from local. and wala! no problems. and in comparison the new cable slides without any friction rather than the old which i had to fight. even installed i can play with the cable easily from under the armrest console.

check this end of the game, if you have the ebrake locking problem. if its too hard to do with just your hands, get a cable or two.

i never have a problem with them locking anymore. a beautiful thing!
