Hey all!

So… bought myself a sweet little pile of rust, an 04’ s60 2.5t (auto, fwd) and it’s been great! But like all Volvos of this age the rack decided to bleed itself to death in my driveway. I’ve been driving it with manual steering for months now but enough is enough.

I need to know how much it’s going to suck to change a steering rack. What am I looking at for process here? Subframe drop, engine pull, axel removal?
I’m quite savvy mechanically, there’s really nothing I can’t do, but this is something I’ve never attempted on a vehicle before!
Thanks in advance!

There was just a post on this the other day. Support engine from above, jack up car, remove lower engine mounts, remove wheels and tie rods, drop rear of subframe, remove rack.

If you know your way around a car this won't be bad at all.

One of my front subframe bolts snapped when I did the rack in my 2006 XC90. I'm in New England so it was rusted. The top of the front bolts is exposed to the elements in a little well that collects water and salt. Not sure if the S60 has a similar setup but if it does, you can get to the tops of the bolts in the frame. Spray them with lots of good penetrant.
