There was just a post on this the other day. Support engine from above, jack up car, remove lower engine mounts, remove wheels and tie rods, drop rear of subframe, remove rack.

If you know your way around a car this won't be bad at all.

 

Just gotta tilt the rear of the subframe down enough to get it out. Comes out the drivers side.

Generally, it isn't a bad job. But with rust and doing it in your driveway as opposed to with a lift, that can make it suck.

In the process of doing it, not too bad but you need get a engine support bar and some new subframe bolts as their torque to yield and make sure to put some penetrating oil on the subframe bolts and let it soak for a while as they're for sure rusty!

 

One of my front subframe bolts snapped when I did the rack in my 2006 XC90. I'm in New England so it was rusted. The top of the front bolts is exposed to the elements in a little well that collects water and salt. Not sure if the S60 has a similar setup but if it does, you can get to the tops of the bolts in the frame. Spray them with lots of good penetrant.

 

I can't offer any advice having never done this job before, but your in good hands with the Members that have commented. I just wanted to say that's a sharp looking '04 2.5T! 👍
