Sirius XM channel updates.....did it work?

On July 17th, Sirius had several channels added to their lineup of garbage (most of the channels are just that), and I just spent my third day speaking to elevated tech support. My radio only did a few of the changes, but the two channels that were added, Channels 55 and 57, refuse to get added in. Not a major life-changing problem, but nonetheless, frustrating and irritating my last nerve. The changes worked on my truck, but refuse to take effect in the car. They said I need to go to Volvo, which is b.s.

Can anyone who has factory installed Sirius, please check to see if 55 and 57 were added. 55 is Utopia and 57 is Y2Kountry. I do see the change in name on Channel 3 to Venus; they added Channel 128 (Joel Osteen coming in Fall), and that worked for me, change around a few country stations (56 became 59 and vise versa), dropped Channel 75 Classical Pops which I am upset about.

I did see "updating" this morning for the first time with the tech, but no dice for me... still missing 55 and 57.

Thanks!
Irene

FYI, I checked mine and yes I have channels 55 and 57. I think I also got the other changes you mentioned. But, I don't listen to any of those channels...

Thank you. I'm tired of talking to non-English speaking techs, where I know more about computers than they do. They just don't get it. They read a script and don't understand that those channels do not appear, although the other changes took effect. I told them to disassociate my ESN with my account and start over. One tech did supposedly, but it didn't work. But it was the first time I saw "updating ". BTW, I'm upset they stopped channel 75, the classical POPS, one of 3 channels I actually listen to. They could do away with alot of channels dedicated to one singer or a band that no one cares about in thirty years! If Sirius wasn't built in, I'd probably use my iPhone and stream.

Update

After days of frustration, they said the Sirius unit in the 2008 c70 is not capable of accepting new added channels because it's a first generation unit. Volvo disagrees. I want to know if anyone in MY 08 has successfully added 55 and 57. I'm not willing to upgrade my module since it otherwise works ok. PS: I don't believe Sirius reps. At least 12 of them, each a different story. Thanks

Exactly. You have a 2012. That's my problem. I have a first generation Sirius. I have an open ticket with their Product Support team and I've also posted on their Facebook page, which BTW I despise FB, but I did get the attention of a manager on the SiriusXM Digital Care Team who called me and he is still seeing what can be done for older Sirius radios. They've had plenty of issues similar to mine. I also contacted TSSRadio for support. Right now, I'm ok with the lack of 55 & 57, but if it gets worse whereby I'm losing channels in the near future, I will stream in from my iphone.

I listen to Studio 54; my husband - gross Howard Stern in his Aspen.

I added a Sirius radio to my C70 on July 18th but after finishing the installation I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting #75 (Pops). After searching their website I realized they'd dropped it, sure enough it was gone in my S60 (built in SiriusXM) too. It was one of my faves so I'll be complaining or voting to bring it back. The audio quality on the aftermarket Siruis radio seems to be much better than the built in version on the newer car, which sounds very compressed at times. You could always upgrade to a separate Sirius unit to get the new stations. They run promotions all the time so the initial cost is pretty cheap ($19+activation in my case). My wife likes to stream with Spotify but Sirius is convenient and so nice to have on longer trips. Can't stand to listen to normal radio stations any more.

You can get #75 but it's only on their Internet Radio subscription which I have. It is definitely there. #75 was dropped on July 17th and was my #1 channel, and I complained about it on their Facebook page, and I called them. There are zillions of unhappy people on FB. Believe it or not, I got a free month added to my subscription! Call and complain. I told them I am now down to 2 channels......Studio 54 and Disney (LOL....when my grandkids are with me!)

UPDATE: So, their digital manager called me back earlier today, and so I'm out of luck as far as ever adding 55 and 57. He offered to send me their most current Sirius portable unit and a card to bring to Volvo for free installation, that is, running those wires and the antenna which I detest. I was going to request the Onyx Plus unit which also has the extra channels on it, not that I'd ever listen to them. But I'd also have to upgrade my subscription to All Access. It also includes Internet Radio in that package, but I'm paid up for a year on my Sirius & Internet subscription, plus the free month. Meanwhile, I'm streaming from the iphone and watching my AT&T data carefully.

Well, at least you got some response. Honestly Pops was the main reason I subscribed. Other stations are nice to have but that's the one I listened to most of the time. I sent them a complaining email too. Maybe it will come back if enough people ask for it.

I can't get 11 12, or 55 (haven't checked for 57)

I have a 2008 C30 but I suspect the radio modules are the same. I've been through 3 tickets with Sirius on this and no resolution. The last person said I need to go to Volvo and check for radio software updates.

Have you done that? Volvo Service Advantage is supposed to do that anyways when you take your car in for service.

This is unfortunate, but what I don't understand is why can't they offer a replacement with a newer Sirius unit from a newer C70 (2009+). I would be surprised if such a replacement was not possible, given the high amount of interchangeability between pre and post-facelift C70s. Also, wouldn't a post 2009 C70 Sirius unit be easier to install than the aftermarket solution?

well I guess I'm having to raise the BS flag on this version 1 versus version 2 crap. I did a part # lookup and the number stays the same through 2012 for the C30. So one of two things is at play here. Either something inside the module changed and it is interchangeable back to any year, or all C30s are screwed. And if the former, I would still say that a software update of some kind could make these modules work.

It is just a frickin radio receiver. All the tuning is done by software. It HAS to be....otherwise Sirius could never alter channel lineups.

I did see a part number for "Application. Supporting Application for Volvos Sirius Satellite Radio" It makes me wonder if this is the software part we need that can be updated. The module is simply not changing in all the part runs I'm doing.

I also said it smells like b.s. too! However I was told the c70 is different and it cannot be upgraded.

I just called my service dept and made them check again if they've made had any progress with this issue of a gen 1 unit ,since I last called.

So, now they told me to bring in my car and they would see if there is anything they can upgrade. But they said not one person has questioned them to do this other than me. Not sure I want to be their guinea pig either, esp since I have the navigation integrated in there. I know the sirius module should be in the trunk somewhere but would the wiring be an issue, since newer volvos use the fiber optic wiring (MOST). There may be too much to risk and I don't think the service dept is capable of doing more than general maintenance and repairs before it becomes something they may have to actually think about!

The last time they messed with my sirius unit was in 2008 when car was first purchased. The problem was the sirius wiring harness which somehow threw an error message to stop driving n service car ASAP, and my alarm wouldn't shut off nor would my top operate. I drove 35 miles to service with my alarm blaring. And the problem was sirius. Took them three weeks to figure out. Scary. In my case I think I need to leave this be.

the reason no one else has asked them to do this is because no one knows what they are missing until someone tells them! If it weren't for the fact that my last car had these channels and upon transferring service to this one I noticed it didn't, I wouldn't have bothered.

Where is our Sirius receiver located? In the trunk? I am still looking for a way to replace that unit and integrate it with the existing antenna. I know of someone trying to do that now with an 06 Jetta. There has to be a way to upgrade this thing. I just realized Channel 12 is Z100, which is my hometown station and I can't even get that, even though it's simulcast on FM.

I'm going to bump this thread to let everybody know that I'm having the same issue with my 2008 S80 and 2007 XC90. Channel 55 (Utopia) which is a channel that is literally right up my alley will not work in either of my Volvos. I also have an old Audi and it wont work in that car either. The only car I own in which it works is my Subaru which has an aftermarket headunit. I'm wondering if having the Volvo dealer do an RDAR reload/upgrade would fix the issue since it may have something to do with older software in the unit. If not, simply getting the sirius unit from a newer volvo which would already contain the newer software may work. Even though the part number is the same, that part number only refers to the hardware component of the RDAR system, not the software. There could have been several changes to the software by volvo over the years. I believe my first course of action will be to replace the RDAR unit in my S80 with one from a newer S80. I don't want to change the one in my XC90 yet because whoever owned the car before me still seems to be paying for the Sirius subscription (its been two years!) and I don't want to give up that free perk. LOL.

Wow, that sucks. Makes me glad I didn't hold out for a Sirius equipped M66. I just stream Sirius through my phone, which seems to give me access to more stations than the Sirius unit in my wife's 2011 XC60, but I imagine on road trips outside of the Seattle/Portland metro areas that will get expensive.

Somehow, I feel like the channel limit makes sense, and that they should be able to wipe the software, then add it back in with some kind of a channel list config file and only add certain channels. There may be a bug/feature issue in how they autoload channels. Now you just have to find the project lead at Volvo who knows where the bodies are buried.

The issue remains here and there are now less channels than ever as Sirius takes away some and whatever new ones they add do not get added to my radio anymore. The only exception is if the channel is already an existing channel, like channel 4 which was the 40s music just moved to 73, but 4 is now Pitbull and that works. It was too much hassle to swap out a radio as I have built in nav too, so I just stream from my iPhone 6+. I'd gladly get an updated radio if it were possible, but my service dept. just told me again two weeks ago, absolutely no dice.

Someone at Volvo knows how to wipe the Sirius unit and reload fresh. Keep leaning on corporate. But keep in mind, you might only get the first 128 channels.

I know the Sirius module is located in the trunk somewhere and they once told me they could only replace the unit with the same one, which wouldn't accomplish a thing. I probably should have made them fix the dropout issues that I have too. However, I've put up with this for too many years now to really pursue the matter. I also wish my AM radio worked. Never did from day 1.

I was so close! I have a 2007 S80. I found a 2009 Sirius module, swapped it, got all the channels, but it wont stay on for more than 10 seconds. I think the module is faulty. You can find out if the module is "all Access" capable by giving sirius the Sirius ID of the module. I think if i had a good Module, then it would of worked!

All I know is as Sirius keeps updating the channels as they just did, I have less and less. I struck a deal with them and I got All Access free for a year, but it's useless except on my iPhone where I can stream. I am still on the hunt for a newer module myself, but from my understanding, it will not work.
