I have never used cell phone holders but recently installed one in one of my other cars and found I really like it. What are the options for a cell phone mount/holder in the XC90? I prefer to avoid a windshield suction cup mount if possible. Pics would be great too! Thanks in advance!

Very nice installation.

That's perfect...I have a similar magnetic mount in my Porsche with the same magnetic adhesive backing. Does the clip stay on the vent pretty well? Thanks!!

I lay my phone sideways in the most forward part of the center console, by the dash. Since I am not looking at the phone while I drive, there's no need to have a special holder that allows visibility of the phone's screen. You can plug your phone in and use Android Auto if you prefer having Google Maps instead of Volvo's navigation (I prefer Google myself), and all your phone calls and text messages come through by either bluetooth or direct connection.

I have the pro clip lower console mount, which has worked well for me but since I’ve moved to the iPhone X I’m switching to the left center dash mount since that will put the phone in facial recognition range. That way I can yell hey Siri at it and if I ask it to do something that it would need to unlock for it will do so automatically.

If your phone is in a lower position you have to turn your head to unlock it or use the passcode both of which are not optimal. The fingerprint scanner was nice for that reason.

I just placed a samsung wireless fast charger on top of the cup holder cover closed half way near the arm rest. Aside from that I just stand it up in the open compartment under the glove box button.

Elevation Dock 4 is the one

Thought I'd pay it forward and share that Elevation Dock 4 fits perfectly in my 2018 XC90 in the useless console space behind the 12v power adapter. The included braided charging cable hides neatly around the leather encasings, so no need to take apart the console.

Was also thinking the proclip option but wife and I share the car so we needed a universal docking solution.

I've thought about installing a dock there, but the right side of the volume knob where the "blank" button is contains the temperature sensor. Do you have any issues with the climate control being "off" when you place your phone there? Also can you still close the cover?

Here's a link to set of photos on how to install a Proclip mount in the center console. I've used it on my 2017 and 2018 T8's and it is pretty easy to do and looks custom. It also allows you to close the center console when the phone is not in the mount.

Do the side panels just pop off? Are specific locations where the clips might be?

I have a 2018 XC60 T8 and plan on doing the same install.

I know this setup is not for everyone, but I had used this setup in our prior cars and it works very well for us. Our goal is to have a QI charger that is easy to use, and can work with pretty much any model of QI capable phone we have, since we change phones quicker than cars. This setup holds the phone securely, easy in, easy out, charges it if you are just driving for a short run and don't need to plug in for AA and stops the phone from flying and cracking the screen. For the times I want to use Android Auto, so I have extended the USB cable from the center console for the hard connection to the car. This is a combination of a Pro-Clip with old Samsung Qi charger which seems to be manufacturer discontinued now :angryfire:

I used JB Weld the glue on the ball mount for the Qi charger onto the Pro-Clip mount, and ran a 90 degree micro USB cable https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EBGGXS2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to a USB power outlet https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6S2SNM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and hooked it up using a ATR Fuse Tap into the passenger side fuse panel for the Steering Wheel Heater fuse.
