I experienced multiple reboot of Sensus mostly after using the voice commands (set temperature and clear itinerary only as the voice system seems to be badly reacting to my heavy italian accent). I am scheduled for the "november" update on THU and I'll report back after that.

PS: the voice recognition is so bad that my teenager kids now wants me to keep trying just to see the hilariously wrong results...

This happened to me this morning on my way into work. The sensus just went blank and so did the navigation in the dashboard. Rebooted a couple of times. The radio (FM) was playing when the crash happened. Thanks to this forum I was not as surprised as I would have otherwise been. I do not have the car play but my car was delivered with November update.

The scary part was that the air suspension went up and down when the sensus rebooted the second time. I got it on video just in case dealer or Volvo need it. The car was on ACC in heavy traffic and the reboot made me lose my trust on the capability of the ACC/Pilot Assist. It looked like the ACC was working fine during this whole incident but immediately after, I decided to drive the rest of the way. I guess I will NOT be taking the highway on my way back this evening.

Does anyone know if the sensus rebooting issue has been fixed or is this something still being worked on?

well, much to my dismay, I'm on my second XC90 loaner...this one I picked up yesterday and its supposed to have had the Nov update already preinstalled..but it does not have CarPlay... I had a reboot happen just once right after I started the car..I was not using anything, voice, iphone was NOT connected....I can't associate anything at all except that it was raining heavily outside. In addition, just before the reboot the volume would not work..I heard the radio very faintly but volume didn't do anything...the volume bar moved back and forth but the sound remained very low. I got back in car about an hour later and it worked normal. Lastly, today as well, while I was driving the screen froze when I was adjusting the temp...all I saw was the seat and temp guages- none of the bottons worked...everything was frozen. Stopping and starting car worked. I can't believe this...first I have a lemon and now this (oh and my first loaner had the break pad bulletin on it after I reported squeeling brakes. My wife is just about done. Has anyone else had the volume issue?

Our XC90 is approximately 3 weeks old. From time to time, the center console goes completely blank, the sounds system and nav shut down and then the whole thing automatically resets on its own after 10-15 seconds or so. The dashboard indicators have not done blacked out (yet). Do others have this issue? Is there a software update? How to make Volvo aware of the issue?

Thanks all.

I am having the same reboot issue with some frequency. We do not have Apple CarPlay. Sometimes it reboots once, sometimes twice, sometimes three times. quite disconcerting. Is there an update to the update?

From another post:

Software update associated with TIE - TJ 31295 "Infotainment System Reboots repeatedly while driving" which was released/posted Feb 15, 2016.

This TJ also states "Analysis has revealed that this is due to the IHU (Infotainment Head Unit) internal HD Radio channel list list becoming full. When this happens, the IHU reboots to a previous status.".

This issue can be resolved; download SP 31483286 with VIDA. This will clear the internal HD Radio memory and prevent the continuous/repeated resets from occurring.

Glad they found out the root cause. Though sounds a naive software bug...

I got mine fixed last week. since then there are few threads asking about the same problem. This is a very common issue and it's been fixed. Sensus is very likely to crash/freeze if listing to the radios over time. I think this fix should be a sticker.

Boo Sensus. I went in for the patch today and all was great on the way back to work. After I left work the rebooting came back. I removed the screen cover since that helped someone else but no luck.

Dealer said they need to make some calls. Sigh - for 70k I expected Apple not Microsoft.

This past Tuesday, I didn't get a reboot, but instead the 2nd tile that shows radio info like XM channels, Am channels, FM channels etc played my XM station that was on during shutdown but the tile continued to show 'Loading...' for the whole drive home, aprox. 35 minutes.

As is 'normal' with Sensus hiccups, once I got home, shutdown and locked the vehicle and then restarted later in the day for another trip, the tile properly loaded everything and worked normally.

I notices this happened on my xc90 when the USB thumb driver connected into the USB port went on the fritz. Once I switched it out to one that was working properly, the issue resolved. I wonder if this is happening to iPhone users that have faulty USB cable.

Thanks dieseldoc. I unplugged my thumb drive (it was a 32gb sandisk - fairly new and barely used. Loaded with 31gb). After I removed it I had no heat.

Yup - no matter what the setting - blew nice cold air. But no reboot. Restarted, locked unlocked etc a few times. Tried a complet reset, removed Pandora and weather. Nothing.

Finally I set it on low, then high, then low the. High. My heat started working. No reboots for a few starts.

I added back the vehicle Internet and wifi connection. So far so good - I do notice I have no FM HD showing up now. But I'd give that up for no reboots. Maybe it was just the thumb drive and possibly iPhone cable.

One week after installed freezing/crashing updates, the Sensus freezing issue comes back after ~6 minutes driving today. (Didn't see the tech journal # for fixing freezing/crashing on the invoice, but a bunches of updates. They even updated the GPS map and installed all Apps) It seems every time the Sensus freezing can be "predicted" when the car just turn on, the Sensus responds to touches or backup camera shows up much slower than normal. Not sure other people is the same case as well. It seems that Volvo hasn't fixed this issue yet. Has anyone else with the patched applied also seeing the crashing/freezing issue?

I've had the patch done a month ago and had three days in a row of reboots (a pair each time). Haven't had any more in 2 weeks.

My reboots always occur within a half mile of my office downtown. In fact, it's never rebooted except for this one area (within 1000 yds of a highway overpass) exiting the downtown area. Always at the lunchtime hour (around noon).

It's very strange - almost as if something related to GPS or my iPhone is causing it..

It's more of freezing rather than rebooting with me. I suspect it's also related to GPS, or the wireless SIM. It froze few time while I was using GPS before and once after the fix. And the wireless SIM symbol never shown up during freezing. Yesterday, I sent an address via VOC, Sensus froze while I was using the GPS. I had to stop on the side, turn off the car, then turn it on, after few minutes, it's fine, but the destination I sent via VOC before was gone. I had to send it again, then I used the GPS again, after a rerouting, it came up a "destination could not be found" warning voice very frequently, and I had to touch the Sensus to clear it. I then just set another address using control on the steering wheel, and back to the original destination. It's fine again along my one and half hour trip. This warning never came up before the fix.

Having the iphone cable disconnected from the USB port, this morning, after a short trip on my way back, it froze again. The GPS on the panel worked fine but the GPS section on Sensus screen became completely black. The SIM icon and signal are gone. However, the bottom three sections are still showing the radio station it was playing, the phone it connected to, andthe car status. Radio was still working, the volume control on the steering wheel doens't work, but the volume knot under the Sensus works.

They definitely need to put out a real fix for this issue since the Sensus controls everything. Crashing/freezing issues are considered show stoppers in software industry.

It happened to my car as well, while my phone was connected I called a friend using the app Viber and suddenly the Sensus reboot by itself. I kept on happening together with the suspension resetting to the Comfort mode until I disconnected the phone, after that the issue was gone. By the way this happened while I was driving, it was my third time experiencing this and I kinda had hunch that my phone or an app is causing the reboot; it also happened last time I was looking at my Dropcam while the phone is connected.

Can you guys document what you're doing when the reboot happened? I suspect it's those apps that doesn't support Carplay are causing this issue.
