Senses screen brightness

So I have new issue that started today. When I started my T6 Inscription in the garage the Sensus screen dims due to the darkness in the garage. But once I back out into the bright light the screen does not adjust back to its standard brightness. I first thought it just seemed dim because it was such a sunny day. But when I restarted the car to head home the screen was back to its standard brightness. I was hoping this was a one time thing but I experienced the same issue later in the day.

I tried searching other threads but found nothing on this issue. Anyone have this happen? Any suggestions?

Also, I have this rattle somewhere between the back of the drivers door and the back passenger door. At first it was just on rough roads but now I hear it almost all the time. I've checked door handles, window screens, seat belts mechanisms, etc. Anyone else have experience with this? I think it must be something in the rear door or B pillar.

I've not had the brightness issue with Sensus. Where is the ambient light sensor? Could something be blocking it?

As for rattles, sometimes you need to get someone else to drive it around while you sit in back listening for it to find he cause. I get a somewhat frequent rattle from my rear seat caused by the seat belt buckle being twisted around when my kid gets out of the car. Other offenders have been stuff left in the pockets. There's been some TJs on 2016s that require various shims or foam added if I recall correctly.

I have the problem sometimes. Sensus is dim coming out of the garage and doesn't recover to full brightness when outside. Makes the screen quite unusable. I can't recall the point in time it corrects itself - but it does correct after driving a bit. It is quite an annoyance. I assume the sensor is in the middle of the dashboard and there is nothing that's blocking it.

No rattles here (knock on wood) but the screen brightness was something I found myself adjusting regularly, because the change to night mode would happen while there's still enough ambient light to wash out the display. If I adjust the lighting level to make the display more visible, it is brighter than I prefer once night has fallen and it's completely dark outside. After a while, I just gave up and pretty much leave it at a level I like for night. The display will often go to night mode with underpasses and lighted tunnels (can't speak to garages as my XC lives outside) but it returns to day mode not too long after emerging.

My 2017 XC90 has the same display dark out problem. Coming out of a garage in broad daylight and the display stays dark, therefore the display was totally unreadable under the sun. This happens repeatedly and has to be a common problem. I hope the new total software update would resolve it.

I haven't yet noticed this yet, or let me rather say, my car doesn't seem to have that problem because I have used underground parking and it restores normally when I drive out the parking. I'll start checking it out, hopefully I won't start seeing problems now

There is certainly something odd every now and then. I hardly ever drive at night, but sometimes in early evening the dash brightness goes extremely dim (as if it senses it's dark outside). But sometimes at night it's way way too bright. Daytime brightness for me is always ok, just sometimes it doesn't get the auto-dimming right in half-light.

This had resolved itself for a bit and then happened a couple days before I took my car in for another service appointment. I took my car out with a tech to diagnose some rattles and luckily the screen issue occurred (I was parked under their covered drop off area). When I pulled out in the sun the screen stayed dim. The dealer had my car for about 5 days as the tech worked with Volvo to determine the issue. He originally thought it was the twilight sensor that is mounted on the right side of the rear view mirror. Final conclusion was to replace the entire Sensus screen. I have had the car back for about two weeks and the issue seems to have been resolved. If your dealer does the same, make sure you get a new screen protector if you had one installed.

We have the same issue and when it occurs we just put the hand over the sensor (on dashboard) until it switches to night mode and after removing it everything goes to normal. I hope we don't have to have the car at the dealership for 5 days!

Yesterday in very bright sunlight I drove under a typical under path in about 1-2 seconds and back into the bright sun light, my display turned black and could not recover. The Sensus shut down tried to restart, lost my navigation. The system rebooted for a few minutes and eventually turned back on. The HUD lost the speed limit recognition.
