Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase an '12 S80 T6 AWD with around 90K miles on the odometer. It seems to be well taken care of and has all regular maintenance performed. I'm planning to drive her for 100K miles or 5 years, whichever comes sooner.

What specific issues should I look for? Is there any expensive maintenance to be expected? I've read about automatic gearboxes giving issues but apart from that the car seems solid.

Thanks!

Go for it. Not a troublesome car at all. Look for Itwontstopsnowin's post. He has more than 300k miles on his and pretty much nothing wrong.

My father has almost 300 000 KM on his and has had no real issues either (a failed sunroof switch recently and a bad cooland level sensor just now). Changed brakes, control arms is pretty much all.

His S80 is a V8.

As for the T6, just make sure the oil was changed regularly. It's a complete hit or miss (90% chance it'll be a miss) But if the oil wasn't changed regularly (5000-7500 miles), then there's a chance for oil consumption issues. Otherwise they're really solid. PCV is coming up on 125k miles, accessory belt at 125k miles, and the master brake cylinder should be resealed at 150k miles. The nice thing is the T6 uses a timing chain, so you won't have to worry about that until the unit that contains the timing chain starts seeping oil. Then you just get it resealed. I would also recommend getting a trans flush done in the future if it hasn't been done. As well as an angle gear and rear diff fluid flush (in the future).

They are quite nice to drive. If you are in the midwest, Mercedes Benz of Des Moines have an 08 with 80k on it that drove like a dream and I believe it is still available. It was a little spartan as far as options went but overall it was a well maintained car that had obviously been cared for.
