S60 T6 Exhaust Opinions: IPD, Ferrita, Elevate etc.

Hello,

I’ve done some extensive research about the exhaust systems for my T6, and was wondering what people’s opinions are with real life experience using these? I’m not looking for too much noise, but having it a little more throaty would be cool. IPD seems to make a nice system for a reasonable price, but I’ve only been watching YouTube and haven’t talked with anybody that has one. I’m also told TME will be releasing a new exhaust and am considering seeing what that’s priced at.

Any feedback or advice is greatly appreciated!

Here to go, plenty of info here...

I've got just the Magnaflow muffler on mine and have been very happy with it overall.

If this is a 6-cylinder T6, the iPD is a nice exhaust and high quality, but it does drone around cruising speeds (65-75 MPH). Not the worst drone, but it's there.

I had a local shop work work mine about 6 months ago. They cut out the resonator, make a Y-pipe to replace it, cut out the OE muffler, and replaced it with a magnaflow all for $300 in a weekend. It sounds fantastic. Startup is a little loud, but at idle, it quietens a bit. Nice and throaty in the midrange, but a bit quieter at higher rpms. Turbo cars tend to run a little quiet. There is a little drone at highway speeds, but its really manageable. Sounds excellent when paired with the Elevate Cold air intake and Elevate j-pipe. If you go local though, ask to see some of their work first to make sure their welder is decent!

Like the OP, I have also been on the fence of which direction to go for an exhaust upgrade. I've had cars in the past that drone at typical cruising speeds and it is no fun. I just want the turbo to spool better and have a little more growl coming out of the back. ...Don't we all? 😁

I have the IPD exhaust on my 2015 V60 T6 R-Design and I've had it on for roughly 30k miles. Great sounding exhaust, but like some have mentioned the biggest drawback for is the droning on the highway. Anything over 2000-2500rpm over 68mph on the highway I get drone. I am used to it now after all this time and isn't ear shattering, but I have heard its not as bad in the S60 because the trunk is closed off compared to my wagon.

I have the IPD catback on my S60 and can confirm, I hardly notice the drone at all... granted my old car was much louder on the highway. The best form of sound dampening that I know of though? Turn up the music haha. Recently with the catback breaking in as well, I've seemed to notice a lot more turbo spool noises at around half throttle (which I love).

Are you planning on keeping the car long term, or just want to throw something on?

I have just put on the iPd system on the V60, and has been said, it is way lighter than stock and a high quality and easy to fit option.
We do a lot of highway driving, and the drone is very noticeable...but it a loud (for me) exhaust. Maybe a cargo cover in the boot will knock it down a bit?

Eh it will but not by much. The difference between an S60 and V60 is noticeable but what would really do the trick is probably some dynamat or other type of insulation around that area. I forget what it's called but certain insulators work better than others specifically related to drone or resonance.

But that means all that weight you lost from the lightweight exhaust would be back in insulation.

Hey Ipso, I’m also in Oz. You say the quality of your IPD exhaust was high, my IPD downpipes’ quality was pretty crap really. After some ‘repairs’ will be going ahead with the install shortly. I see you have the OBX downpipe and the IPD catback. Do you think it’s the combo that’s causing your droning. I was going to go the IPD catback eventually as well but I doubt that now. I did like the sound of the IPD exhaust, bit more refined than the others.

The iPD will drone no matter what downpipe you have on the car. I've had stock and high-flow cat DPs with similar results. You'd need either a bigger muffler or play with a resonator to alleviate the drone, but that would defy the point of a cat back. I do agree, I liked the sound of it but if I had to do it again I would probably go a different route.

If you are worried about drone, you should also consider Corsa mufflers….
