My wife and I have owned four Volvos: 2004 & 2015.5 S60's and 2012 & 2023 (OSD) XC60's. My current 2015.5 S60 T6 is an experience I do not want to repeat. I have the first production of the Drive-E (B4204T9) with the too well-known oil burning issues. I am looking at a 2022 S60 B5 FWD Momentum with 20k. I want to confirm what changes were introduced for MY22 to avoid any significant first-year changes that may prove troublesome.

Is there a resource forum where I can see the chronological introduction of engines?

Is there a resource forum with MY22 order guides?

From what little I can find from the Internet, your 2015.5 S60 T6 came with either a B4204T9 (FWD/AWD) or a B4204T10 (FWD) engine. The B5 FWD has a B420T2 power plant, so searching around with those might help.

I have now had a 2022.5 B5 for a year, and I've driven 30000+ km without any issues, but that doesn't prove anything yet.

Wikipedia is as good a resource as any for chronological information about engines. The only new things about a '22 B5 would be the ISG and Google system if it has it.

From what I've gather at Swedespeed, the B5 and B6 mild hybrid engines are the "3rd Gen" of the Drive-E design. Technically, even the latest SPA Extended Range Recharge models (like my v60 P*E) are still using the last gen Drive-E engine - aka the T6 without the belt driven supercharger. Excluding the mild-hybrid system and its accessories, the 3rd Gen Drive-E engines have slight differences in the valvetrain setup, cylinder head is new, and so is the turbo mounting position (could be a indication of integrated exhaust manifold) Even the PCV/Oil separator looks different. I am pretty sure there are a few more emission related changes to it as well that we can't tell by just looking at it from the surface.

In terms of the oil consumption issue in the early Drive-E engines, I believe that had already been rectified sometime around 2016/2017 with the redesigned piston rings (don't quote me on that however).....

And to your question, technical information from Volvo is very limited with regards to their drivetrains unless it's something totally new and ground breaking. Also, I have noticed that changes to the Drive-E engine over the years were more in the incremental fashion as indicated by the long list of B420xxx numbers. You can also reference to Volvo's internal engine code as shown below.

The SPA engines don't burn oil from 2017 onwards. Volvo seems to have a policy of constant improvement (or at least constant change) with its engines stretching way back but they often leave the fundamentals unchanged. A newer Volvo should not burn oil and should treat you better than the early 4cyls did.
