S60 Recharge - Plugged in, not charging

I have had my 2024 S60 Recharge for a week now, and twice when I plug into my home level 2 charger (Autel), the dash will say initiating charge for a bit, but the chargeport light will stay yellow indefinitely. The Volvo Cars app indicates that it is plugged in but not charging (this is true) and very occasionally will flash to the 100% Done status, then back to yellow.

I've tried unplugging/plugging in the cable, using my charger app to start charging (it fails due to the car not sending the signal to allow charging), and unlocking/locking.

The only reliable fix is the classic "turn it off and back on again", literally turning the vehicle on with the start switch, and then back off. Plugging in after that almost immediately initiates a successful charging session.

Again, really small sample size here in a week, but has anyone else experienced this? Any tips or tricks? I have considered that it could be temperature related, but it hasn't been under 20ºF at any point when I've tried to charge.

On other vehicles, some people have found that the plug sags a bit, which can interfere with the initial handshake. Holding the plug firmly against the car until charging begins can alleviate this issue.

I had similar issues with the Volvo charging cord - plug with latching, but no juice. I eventually realized the charger was glitching (red light) and not delivering anything to the car. Doesn't sound like your issue.

I will try this next time. I did seem to notice a slightly more positive click when inserting the plug right before it did start to charge (after also doing the power cycle on the car). it does feel like one way or another that handshake isn't occurring, so if it's physical, that's likely something I can either solve myself, have solved by the dealer, or at least be aware of holding it tighter as you said. if it's a software problem (which worries me that the off/on cycle has worked) then it might be something needed from Volvo's end. Thank you for the reply and tip.

You could always bring to the dealer for a software check / update. Glitches are not exactly uncommon on the latest Volvos. But I doubt anything is mechanically wrong with the vehicle. Best of luck. I hope the ownership experience is otherwise fantastic.

I also have the MY24 S60 T8 Recharge and had the same problem multiple times. I realised it was after longer journeys and the battery was very low or zero. I took the car for a drive in Charging mode to get it up to about 3 miles range, tried the charge again and it worked. Like I say, I have tested this several times. I think it must be there is not sufficient energy left in the battery to complete charging initialisation, so it fails.

I have sent feedback to Volvo via the app, but not followed up as I just manually switch to ICE on longer journeys to make sure I never drop below 5 miles on the battery.

I do not know what you are talking about… I can be at 0kms and, even after a long drive, I can charge it up with no issues. I think you need to go to the dealer.

The car probably checks for undervoltage on the main battery. Perhaps the limit was set too high, and (due to normal tolerances) you just happen to have a main battery that was ever-so-slightly under that incorrect undervoltage lockout limit.

It might have been fixed by update, or perhaps just working the cells in caused enough of them to edge up just a touch, putting your battery over the undervoltage lockout limit.

That last option is highly unlikely since any undervoltage lockout should be nowhere near the normal minimum operating voltage of the battery.

Hopefully you were able to document the issue. If it comes back I would hound a dealership about it.

We have had an issue with one member that his AC power was only 220 volts going through a voltage reduction box and his charging would just stop. His street power was 247 volts (in spec) so he installed that device. We asked him to bypass that and run the higher outlet voltage and all was fine. I would bypass that Autel and connect your 240 Volvo cable directly to the 20 amp 240 volt outlet. However it seems like everytime I get a code update for my 24 S60 T8 (third time since Nov 23) it affects my charging. Once it said it was connected but wouldn't charge. It took a drive in ICE and pure mode to correct. I just updated my code yesterday to 2.14.3 and after charging I was unable to disconnect the charge plug. I had to lock and unlock the car twice before the cable was released. 2.14.3 does have a change for the charge port LED's (2024 only) so the code was certainly altered affecting that hardware. So first make sure your voltage to the charge port is close to 240 volts. Next update to the latest 2.14.3 code and then take it from there. You should not have to charge your car with the ICE before it will take a charge and if it does that is a dealer issue.

I think you were talking about me. Yes switched to the higher voltage worked up until about 2 weeks ago.
After the 2.14.3 update was installed yesterday now it is back working again. At the 247-volt input we will see how long this lasts.
We went back to charging at 120 volts before the update yesterday.

The spring-loaded clip on the plug is a little wonky. At first I needed to actively close it to start charging, now it seems to close without pressure.

This morning I remote-started my car, and found that the doors were unlocked, yet it was apparently charging. I had to actively lock then unlock the doors to disconnect it. It had 40 miles of charge though.

I have been searching the web and youtube to see what is reported. One guy that was doing a mileage report on Youtube noted that you can't push the button lever on the charge handle while pushing it on or it may not charge. It will show as connected but not charging. He said it has to do with the lock pin not being allowed to engage properly. Not sure I believe that but for those that are experiencing the problem of connected and not charging maybe it is worth a shot to try and be mindful to keep your fingers off the release lever. As far as being unlocked and charging I have had that happen as well and I always lock the car to start charging and watching the mirrors close is a pretty good indication. Unlocking the car should stop charging per Volvo.

My ‘23 S60 recharge charging cable got replaced by Volvo early on, no issues since, 17,000 miles.
With the 3.0 update my max charge had dropped back to 49 from the mid-50s, but it’s inching back up as the days go by, low 50s. Also, my battery range is a consistent 15 to 20% farther than predicted in the drivers display. I am happy.

My wife’s MY24 S60 T8 recharge sat all night with the green light on the charger pulsing but did not charge. Traction battery was at 0%. The display said “initiating charge” We tried restarting the infotainment system, starting the ICE and moving the vehicle with no joy. What fixed it was lifting the charging plug and pushing down on the front of the button/rocking lever that engages the latch. I got a nice click and charging started. The charger is a Rivian product and worked properly with my R1T and our Mini Cooper E
