I know I want parking sensors, and the climate package.
I know I want homelink... so the convenience package?
I want Beechwood leather, so Sport package necessary?

does it start to look like platinum makes sense to include these things?

I admit, i find the packaging and trim levels confusing.

Do any of the features in the Platinum trim level like Xenon's and Interior Accent Lighting matter to you? By the time you Al Carte everything it comes to about $2000 difference. Personally, I want to have Xenon's, so my only trim level to go with now is Platinum.

Have Xenons, would never go back. Go Platinum with Climate and BLIS.

Yes, get the platinum. It's pricey but Xenons are a must, trust me on this, plus many of the other goodies like the HK stereo are worthwhile and would help resale a bit. The technology package is now included with platinum which wasn't the case with our 2015 platinums.

Another vote for platinum.

Not saying that the Volvo halogen lights are horrendous, but the Bi-Xenons are incredible! I'd also agree with the Climate + BLIS packages. Climate is a MUST if you live in a colder climate IMO.

Actually, they took Xenon's out of Prem Plus package after the refresh in MY2014. This was the main reason why I had to special order my S60, since dealers failed to order Xenon's in 90% of their stock. Yes, Platinum is a good deal now, considering that it includes pretty much the entire list of options on offer (apart from BLIS, Sport and Climate). However, while Tech package and upgraded sound are neat and everything, they are not a necessity. Personally, I wish Xenon's were still stand-alone. "Premier + Xenons + BLIS" config would have been a huge seller (at $2-3K savings over Platinum).

You'll want the BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) Package which includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Front & Rear Park Assist and Lane Change Merge Aid. It's well worth the $925. (Optional for PREMIER and PLATINUM trim levels)

You can go with the Climate Package for $1,550 which includes Front & Rear Heated Seats, Heated Steering Wheel, Heated Windshield, Heated Wiper Nozzles and Interior Air Quality System (IAQS). Or if you can get just the Heated Front Seats for $500. (Optional for PREMIER and PLATINUM trim levels)

Homelink is actually available as a dealer-installed accessory for $229.95 plus tax PLUS installation labor. At least $350-$375 installed.

But the Convenience Package also includes Keyless Drive, which I consider essential and the Rear Backup Camera (also essential). It also includes a Digital Compass, Grocery Bag Holder and Power Retractable Exterior Mirrors. Well worth the $1500, in my opinion. (standard on PLATINUM trim level).

The Sport Seats are a $500 option on the T5 and don't require the Sport Package. The Sport Package comes with 19" wheels/tires, Sport Chassis and paddle shifters. The Sport Package really adds to the look of the car and I wouldn't buy an S60 without it, but it isn't a requirement to get the Sport Seats, just to let you know. If you don't get the $1000 Sport Package, I would recommend at least considering the $750 18" Titania wheel upgrade. It doesn't have the Sport Chassis tuning or paddle shifters, but the wheels make a significant difference in the look of the car anyway.

For the additional $2,100, you get Active Dual-Xenon Headlights, 12-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Audio System and the Technology Package. The separate value of these is $3,500 (Harman Kardan is a $1,200 option and Technology Package is $1,500 option on PREMIER, the Dual-Xenon headlights are no longer available as a separate option but they were priced at $800 when they were an individual option).

The Technology Package includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Warning & Pedestrian/Cyclist Detection w/ Full-Auto Brake, Distance Alert, Lane Keeping Aid, Driver Alert Control, Road Sign Information and Active (automatic) High Beam *(High Beam is not included with the package on PREMIER model because it is only available with Xenon headlights).

I highly recommend the PLATINUM just for the Active Dual-Xenon Headlights alone. They are a great safety feature and until the current 2015.5 models, they were available as an option across the S60 line for $800 until the early 2015 models. I am a little disappointed that Volvo doesn't make them standard (and BLIS) since they are such a valuable safety feature. But I am even more disappointed that they now require the PLATINUM trim level to get the Xenons and they aren't available on the PREMIER at all, even though the PREMIER is the volume seller!

I have a 2015.5 S60 T6 Platinum Drive-E and it is Caspian Blue with the Beechwood Sport Leather Seats (Sport Seats are standard on the T6). I also have BLIS, the 19" BOR alloy wheels (paddle shifters already standard on T6, so the option is $100 cheaper than the Sport Package on the T5) and I just have the Heated Seats rather than the full Climate Package.

Have you picked a color yet?

+1 for Platinum. Xenon and ACC are fantastic. Get what you really want. Otherwise you'll think about what you know you're missing every time you sit behind the wheel.

We don't know which engine he's looking to get, but since he didn't mention R-Design in the question he may be looking at a Drive-E motor or 5 cyl motor.
