S40 battery, non-standard size?

I need a new battery for my 2011 S40. Every aftermarket battery I’ve tried is about 3/8” too tall, preventing me from putting down the security strap.

Last battery replacement was done by my mechanic in 2019, and recall him trying 3 different brands from his supplier before giving up and getting an OEM one from Volvo.

Is Volvo OEM my only choice?

weird.. taller batteries in Canada ?? I have a Walmart battery and it fits perfect.
but, you know, there was two size batteries available with two size holddown straps. I think H6 and H7 ?
but oddly enough I'm pretty sure the larger strap works with the smaller battery... not sure about vice versa.
the smaller battery should also be installed with a spacer block to take up the extra space in the box and a corresponding longer positive terminal to make up the extra distance.

I think I know what the issue is. I need to remove the battery box and full remove the bracket first according to a youtube video.

Using google search, I found this old post with my exact issue (couldn’t find it using forum search)

But yes, the OEM battery is slightly shorter. Maybe I should look into the different bracket you posted.

Thanks for the responses!

I appreciate the offer, I’m way over in Alberta.

if you are in just north of Toronto area you can maybe buy my battery at a low price. I bought it new from Canadian tire and never installed before I scrapped my v50. I have kept it in the garage for a year on a maintainer, in hopes of when I get the v50 engine project going. looks like that'll be a while. its a 3 year battery

Update for those who run into this issue in the future, I did manage to install a Kirkland H7 battery without buying the updated bracket. The old bracket was just too short to get the nuts to spin on the threads. It took some creative bending of the bracket and was able to get everything in snug and secure. The H7 is a tight fit and took the cables to the limit, but it works.
