I have a 2019 Volvo XC60 T6 Inscription and am planning to replace the auxiliary support battery (at 25% currently). The dealer wants $319, while a new battery costs $115 plus my time.

It seems to be a quick and simple process. I read several blogs on how to replace the battery - just swap out the batteries. However, I also watched videos which said I have to also disconnect the main battery and wait 20 minutes before I install the replacement auxiliary support battery to allow the vehicle's computer to reset.

What is the correct methodology? Thanks.

I acquired the car about a month ago. It currently has about 134,000 miles. The 25% was determined by my Volvo dealer while doing a used car review (which I requested).

Here are the instructions from Volvo. I do not believe the main battery needs to be unplugged. I’m unsure of the “inactive mode” though.

Thanks. The graphic instructions are what I have seen. As far as inactive mode, I think I read somewhere (I cannot find the reference again now) that you should twist start knob COUNTERCLOCKWISE. I haven't tried that, but I remember playing once and the start knob did not move counterclockwise. I will try again.

I think your comment is correct. I replaced the auxiliary battery and did not do anything with the main battery. It was simple with absolutely no issues. I think that if you have a warning message, you have to disconnect the main battery and wait for the recommended 20 minutes for the message to go away. On the other hand, I was told the warning message would go away on its own after a couple of engine start/stops.
