Hi All,

One of the headlights on my 2007 C70 has an approximately 8" long crack. Photo below. Anyone have any recommendations for how to repair it? I'd rather not spend the $$$ to replace. Alternatively, anyone found a reliable source for replacement aftermarket lenses?

Best,
Steve

Thank you. They don't appear to have any in stock and used lights are typically ~$300. I am wondering if there is a solvent or glue that can be used to actually fix the crack. (I would then polish the lens using a restoration kit.)
Best,
Steve

As far as I know, there are no aftermarket headlights or lenses for pre facelift C70's. Only genuine units, and they're unique to this model. Other P1 headlights won't fit, unless you do a complete front end swap.

The Volvo ones at >$600 are backordered with no estimated delivery date. I found one from a 2008 from a junk yard - crossing fingers on quality. Would still be interested in how to fix the crack, if that is possible.

I have read some old posts on increasing light output by using a different bulb H9 instead of H11. Any advice on how and whether to do that?

Thank you,
Steve

Hi, have you know if the plastic cover for the front headlights can be replaced, or does the whole multibeam unit need replacing business etiquette online? My neighbor backed into me and cracked the left-side headlight. Thanks.

Well if you want to seal it temporarily until you find a source for a headlight. You can even maybe put yourself on a list with Erie Volvo- if they have on.
In the meantime seal it with E-6000 sealant. It is a more of a clear, thick glue which adheres to anything and does a great job of sealing out moisture.
They come in tubes. Amazon sells it and also plastic supply houses. It is used to seal edges of plexiglass.
I think I paid about $150 from Erie about 18 months ago for mine.
Did you check ebay? I just briefly checked and found a Right One for $279- which is not your side in need- but I didn't drill down too far.

No real solution to headlight cracking.
Buying used ones is mostly just matter of time until new cracks appear.
Im still trying to find someone localy here in Baltic states who could make the covers from polycarbonate or maybe 3D print them. Since i dont feel like paying 1000eur for each headlight …

I used "Bob Smith 103 Insta-Cure 2oz Super Thin:
It's incredible strong, it'll burn your skin, but it's also as thin as water.
It'll flow into the crack and positively chemically bind/seal it tight- no leaks.

It can be a little messy, so be prepared to clean it up as you apply it.
Thanks very much! I bought a used one, but will try to fix the cracked one I have too. Great to have options. If you have photos of your repair, I would be very interested in seeing them.

The local shop wanted $600 to replace a broken passenger side outside mirror, labor only we supply the part. That part new at the dealer was $600, I found one on ebay for $40. My nephew on his fist experience took 30 minutes with $20 worth of tool, 5 minute watching youtube video. It is perfect.
We paid him $20 and bought him the tools. He was thrilled. So for less than $$80 parts and labor a newbie did the job that the bodyshop wanted $600, no paint, just 3 bolts and plug out and plug in wire connector. Likely would have spent more time doing the paper work then the actual R&R of the mirror.
Bodywork is quite expensive as it takes a long time to do it right. If there is now actual damage to the car, then you might get off with just an hour, $100-$250. If it involves paint it will take hours. If you smashed the front bumper, headlight etc you maybe looking at more than $1,000, if the fender damaged it could add hundreds to the bill. Hell some headlight cost over $1,000 just for the part, Last time I bought a headlight it was $100 at the junk yard, that was for a 1986 Mazda. Dealer wanted several hundred. Or more recently on my minivan I bought a pair of brand new OEM headlights for a 1996 for Minivan for less than $150 Total.
Depend on what you got, I have seen some taillights selling for over $1.300 each. Led headlight are probably pretty expensive.
