Volvo has updated the XC60 (Video)

Very subtle changes to the exterior, and it has a large screen like the new XC90. Screenshots from the video:

Best news: New colors!

I've used that big screen in the XC90 once or twice. I really like it, and it looks MUCH better in person. Not the most elegant thing in the world, but I think most people will be willing to make the tradeoff for the added functionality.

I was hoping the SPA1 cars would get a full hybrid B5/B6 version with a true electric motor somewhere. A 300hp non-plug-in hybrid would be a great daily driver combo with 30+ combined mpg. I also wondered if the XC60 would get similar chassis updates to the XC90, but it looks like not. Even so, I'm glad to see Nordico here, which I much prefer to the old upholstery options. Looks like Nappa is still available to those who want it.

Nice!! I've put my potential purchase of a new XC60 on hold, and this is great news. I was worried I'd buy right before a refresh and then regret not waiting. I think this is worth waiting for.

So, how does this play in the overall XC60 timeline? Are we still expecting a complete refresh of the XC60 for the 2027 model year?

Any word on structural safety enhancements for this refresh? The current XC60 was dropped from IIHS' Top Safety Pick+ over the scores tallied during the updated side impact tests.

I would imagine this update will take the car from now until ICE's are no longer offered by Volvo. They wouldn't just do it for one or two years.

I don't see any major structural changes with the body of the update so I would think the IIHS ratings wouldn't change.

That is the most disappointing part. The entry models (EX30/EC40/EX40) and flagship models (XC90/EX90) offer them, but not the sweet spot and best seller. It's 15-year-old tech at this point, if not more. I'm in love with the new colors and the interior updates, but this omission will keep one out of the driveway. (Also the lack of the ventilated Cardamom seats, like the XC90. I do not want black or blonde to get seat ventilation/massage.)

Are we really going to see the 70 mile electric range and 3 hour charging in the North American model? I may have to see if an early lease trade in would be possible.

Where do you see 70 miles mentioned? The link shows 82km WLTP, which converted to EPA is probably about 60km or 40mi. Same as the outgoing T8. As far as I know none of these refreshes are getting longer range in the T8s.

Volvo is good - not great. You can only accomplish so much with mirrors, reflectors, and shutters.
Yes, I agree. Pixel lights are better, and it’s a shame Volvo skipped them for this refresh.

I have driven the 2025.5 XC90 at night in Germany and the lighting is fabulous. Equivalent to the latest offerings from the Germans. Our old C40 was amazing, too.
Did the 2025.5 XC90 (not the EX90) get pixel lights? I can’t recall the reviews mentioning it. If it did, then I don’t understand why the XC60 didn’t get them, especially since it’s the top-selling model in the Volvo lineup.

The interior wood looks revised but we haven't gotten any detail on it yet. But from the pictures it does not look like the Driftwood, it may be Ash.

The 2025.5 XC90 has Matrix headlights, which are different from the outgoing model but also different from the EX90. I feel that the XC60 is getting the Matrix ones as well but you really can't tell so much in the pictures.

Unfortunately, no. They are the same AHB LED lights that exist now. No changes to the front lighting at all.

That does translate to 50 miles. You're not missing anything. It's just creative advertising - "up to..."

I've never gotten close to that in mine. Maybe 40 miles under ideal conditions. Maybe you'd get 50 going down a long hill.

Gee, not much of a refresh unless there’s more here than meets the eye. (I sort of wish that Volvo would be sticking with integrated screens, along the lines of what they do now on some of the Aston-Martin, Porsche type designs - not to be.)

Generally, the problem I’m having with a modest refresh is that they’ve almost done too good a job with the current T8 - such a great car just as is and small changes aren’t highly motivating. So I’m not convinced that this refresh is the last stop for XC60 on the way to BEV. The Volvo CEO is exactly right - in the USA the distances and lack of infrastructure make it not ready except on the coasts. This is going to be the situation for a long time. So hybrids and especially the PHEV despite its added costs, are a better mousetrap for many of us who would prefer BEV advantages but just can’t get there. I think that there has to be a bigger turn of the crank to keep Volvo in the ballgame during the transition. We’ll see.

Excellent post! (I'm arrogant enough to believe a post is excellent because I agree!).

Regarding the screens, I appreciate that Volvo hasn't gone full-on "computer desk" with the dash. The instrument cluster is still nicely integrated and recessed. Although the center screen looks a little tablet-ish, it's not as bad as what some automakers are doing.

BMW and Ford have what look like computer monitors sitting on a desk. One for the driver, one for the center stack, and one for the passenger, in some cases.
