Rear Seat Stuck Down - Seat Belt Locked

I folded the passenger rear seat down in my V70 R the other day to load a longish item I needed to deliver home from the store. No problem until I tried to pull the seat back to the upright position because the belt is locked (as if one were tugging on it or under heavy braking) and prevents the seat from moving more than a few inches from the fully folded position.
Am I missing some obvious trick to reset this, or is this a (very inconvenient) trip to the dealer? I have to fix it ASAP, though, or I can't even use the car for the whole family (including kid's car seat)!

Thanks in advance for any help.

I never had this problem, and I don't even have a V70 R but I was wondering if you can push the seat down even further? I'm wondering if you push it further down that the belt will unlock, and then you can try and raise it? I have no idea, just trying to think of things that might work.

Re: Rear Seat Stuck Down - Seat Belt Locked (Polartek)

Most likely it is an issue with the ALR (auto locking retractor) which is designed to allow the belt to lock to be used in anchoring a child seat.

Try latching the belt into the catch and undoing it. If that doesn't work, as Jim says to the dealer you go.

Re: Rear Seat Stuck Down - Seat Belt Locked (Needsdecaf)

It is an ALR issue, but there is no where near enough slack to be able to latch the belt into the lock. It was not latched when the seat was folded. I'm off to the dealer now, but their service is not open on the weekend. Hoping someone there can figure it out!

This has happened to many a Volvo wagon owner, (not to me), so I don't know what the exact fix is but it IS a design flaw that I know

Re: Rear Seat Stuck Down - Seat Belt Locked (Sausca)

You guys are right. I stopped at the dealer today and no quick fix.

They'll have to come and get my car next week and take it to the dealer and then return it because I NEVER have time to go there through the week. I thought unassembling it would work, but maybe Sausca is correct and they will replace it! Probably a good idea to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Button falls off seatbelt and it get's stuck down. A quick fix at dealer. To put up unbolt bottom seat belt attachment a ratchet will fit easily then raise up and bolt back down. Tech manager called the button "not robust". I may have pulled it off pulling the seatbelt through a baby seat quickly.

Re: Rear Seat Stuck Down - Seat Belt Locked (chadds)

Happened to me a few times.

1) Before lowering the seat, lock the belt. This will give you enough play later.
2) if hte belt got stuck, remove lower seat, pull out your toolkit, undo lower belt mounting point. Should give you enough play to release belt.
3)if 2 does not help, off to the dealer for the new belt. Helps to have extended warranty....
