The driver of one of today's absurdly-raised 1/2-ton pickups could not see adjacent obstacles (like Volvo station wagons) and his right front bumper pressed into the left rear corner of my rear bumper, breaking the underlying bracket.
My friend owns a high-end body shop, and his estimate indicates the only part to replace is the broken left side bracket that holds the cover to the bumper (p/n 30727018, No. 14 in flipped parts diagram, below). Unfortunately, he cannot work for a while, so I'm going to buy the bracket and attempt this myself. There's no paintwork needed, only buffing.
I found a few videos on the P2 rear bumper, but they only show dropping the entire bumper and cover. Is there a method to only peel back and reattach the cover from the left corner to install the bracket, without dropping the whole bumper? Or is it easier having the bumper completely off to install the bracket and cover? Advice appreciated.
