Problems downloading apps?

So I went to try and download the weather app and the other couple apps available, and every time I try to it starts the download for a few seconds and then gets an error message that says was unable to be installed and that an error message was sent. It does this for all three of the available apps to download. The modem seems to be working and my Volvo on call works with the app on my phone. Has anyone else had this happen and what did you do about it?

No, it's the car. I am trying to download the weather app. I only mention the phone to show/test that the modem and Internet in the vehicle is working. When I go to download the weather app on the census screen it gives me the error message mentioned above. It only gives me the option to download the weather app and two other apps and it gives me the same " unable to install" message when trying to download any of the three available apps.

I just had my car updated with the latest and greatest SW update today. I am going to try to download and will let you know if I am successful.

Update: I just downloaded all 4 apps without incident and they loaded fine. Not very impressed with them however. The weather app keeps thinking I am in "Oxford". I change it, but it seems stuck, for now. I can report, however, that it is sunny there and a very nice 58 degrees.

I just got my XC90 with the latest SW update and I had some difficulty getting the apps to download. It seemed like it would pause after hitting download/install. Then I would get an error and the app disappears from my list of apps that I could download. Later in the day I turned the car back on and the apps were available again. They downloaded fine as long as the car engine was running. It seems though that the car will not do any downloads or updates if the car engine is not running. I am assuming this is to make sure the battery does not drain. I actually was able to download them very quickly through the car's own internet connection (i.e. the 3G data connection via SIM card).

I have had the same issue trying to download Tune, Volvo ID & Weather app software. It would state downloading and then after 10 secs go back to normal state.
Now the Volvo ID software update sits in a paused state and unable to do any other download.
Have taken the car into the Service Centre and some confused faces. Lots of photos taken and sent off to Volvo technical team in Sweden.
Waiting on a response. Hopefully in the next 24 hours.

It is a weird app where it does grab names of neighborhoods nearby but it still provides the weather for your current location. I have not had issues of providing weather for a completely different location from where I am at.

Any update on this? I have the latest update (with Carplay), and can't download any apps. I'm connected to the internet. It begins to download (briefly displays 0% progress) and then immediately goes into "paused". Each and every app does this.

Time to go to the dealer? I've tried both over my home wifi and by tethering to an iPhone hotspot.

No hassle. FYI. On the replaced XC90 it is still sitting with Volvo. The apps download/install and function with no issues. However the Volvo ID does not function and seems to have connectivity issues either via workshop wifi or phone wifi hotspot.
In the meantime I still have a loan XC90.
Best to double check after they do any software updates. Volvo ID is one of the download packages. So you need to get that working first :)

So I had the exact same problem, and, combined with the May 2016 update bricking / fragging my car, we had the car in the shop for nearly 2 weeks. I will see if I can find a way to copy/paste the diagnostic / solution here if you want......

wow so on one had the May 2017 thread commentary is great,

then here you see (well at least 2) with severe problems.

Make it 3 at least. This plus other issues with the first XC90. Volvo has replaced the first one.
Second replacement XC90 now sitting 2 weeks at the dealer while they try to get the XC90 fully functional before we accept delivery.

In the meantime I am driving a loan XC90 that generates numerous error messages every couple of days. It would be a laugh to take this one back in and get another loan car on top of an existing loan car :)

Three months in and Volvo has not resolved the apps problem on my car...

I bought a Certified Preowned 2016 XC90 in December 2017. The apps are not working nor can they update. I keep getting a "download failed, an error report has been sent." message. After being in and out of the Volvo dealership I finally just left it with them so they could fix it. That was 3 weeks ago. I have been driving a loaner for 3 weeks.

I only bought a Volvo because my wife said they were safe. I believe the reputation for Volvo is safety but I also believe I could have gotten a BMW X5 and would have had less hassle. I have owned a Mercedes and Infiniti and a Mazda. Never had this kind of problem before. The car works well but the apps don't and knowing that the resolution to this problem is this difficult doesn't inspire confidence in the product. If this were a mobile phone issue, a mobile phone provider would have just replaced the phone. I hope they can just replace the module and allow me to continue on my way. The loaner is nice but it is just a loaner, not the car I bought with my hard earned money. :-(

I hope they can make me whole. I am feeling a little depressed from this whole ordeal and am getting some strong buyer's remorse.

Same issue here, with a v90 '18
Apps won't download, it immediately jumps to paused, like it has a number of higher priorities in the.

Since some one mentioned, there are no updates while the engine is not running, could there be a loose wire , not letting the vcm know the engine is running?
